My first question is, although I have heard several times that we have not received any further distress signals or communication from Starbase 714, have we been attempting to open communication with them as well or are we holding off on doing so until we ascertain the reason? My next question is, since Starbase 714 is an Experimental Research facility, wouldn't their databanks be linked to somewhere within the Federation and has any attempt been made to access their databanks or to review the reports to see when last an entry of any sort was made? If the Starbase was under attack, should there not have been time for a subspace message to be sent as well as a distress call?
We have been trying to contact SB714 since the end of the war. As I said, We received a faint message not long ago, but at the moment, we cannot raise them. It is possible that, There was someone alive there to make the signal, but no longer, The transmissions could be blocked, Or the transmission is false and is a trap of some kind to see how fast we get a ship out there. If they were involved in a struggle against the Impostors, and I think this likely, They may not have been able to get a signal out due to subspace interference that sometimes results from weapons fire. These are, of course, speculations, So I feel we should go in assuming the worst.
If the station is non-functional and in ruin, we may have to destroy it to prevent it from being cannibalized by the Kzinti, or any of these other races.
My final questions is the one that has been prompted by your response to the Lieutenant where you mention the Kzinti. I know of this species and your description of them is, of course, very accurate. You mention that regular Starfleet patrols have kept them from any attacks on this sector but with the Impostor War, when was the last regular patrol of this area? With that question asked, my next is this. What if the Kzinti picked up on the distress signal long before the weakened signal reached Starfleet?
::Brock was grateful that he had a crew that was going to keep him on his toes.::
During the war, this sector had been cut off. In my opinion, the Kzinti would have been just as scared of the Impostors as they are of us, if not more so. I think they gave this sector a wide berth. As far a routine patrol, Not since before the war. There was a lot of traffic out here, though. It was out hope to keep the war out of this sector.
that is an exrememly valid question. What you suggest is indeed possible. They may be waitng to make sure the area has "Cooled off", or, they could very well be cannibalizing the station as we speak. In addition, with the fleet being down, piracy could very well be running rampant. This is my greatest fear. As far as giving you a definite answer on these questions, I wish I could, but we will know very shortly. Whatever the case, they are going to see a freighter, Not a Starship. If there are pirates, they will see us as easy meat, and we'll have a little surprise for them.
