Admiral Malc watched the young-looking Romulan salute, knowing that she was almost twice his age had made him come to expect a much older-looking woman....though he knew that their life-cycle was much different than that of a human.
Excuse me Rehkkai' it is from a force of habit that I used the wrong salute. I shall work harder at using the Federation salute." Reha Khev said quickly.
The admiral Nodded to the commander, dismissing her oath to become more accustom to a federation-salute....such trivial things did not concern him at this time.
"I am honored by being asked to be your second officer. Not to question your wisdom, Rehkkai' but do you think that is the best choice for this ship? Considering it is a Federation ship, and I am Rihannsu."
Admiral Malc allowed himself a moment before replying. Commander Khev had been highly recommended, and he was sure that these nuances would work themselves out.
"Commander Khev, your biological make-up does not play a part in the decisions I make on this ship, nor will it effect Colonel Barada's decision making process."
He paused a moment, before continuing:
"You are not being named second officer as a favor to your Empire, and I don't make these type of decisions without the complete counsel of my executive officer; and neither of us take your position lightly. You are being made second officer for one reason, and one reason only..."
Admiral Malc stood-up, and moved halfway around his desk, keeping his eyes locked with his new second officer's:
".... Your experience and record show that you are the best person for the position.......and one other thing: You misunderstood me; I was not requesting that you be the ship's SO, it was an order!"
Admiral Malc began walking toward the door, preparing to exit. He turned back to Sub-Commander Khev, and added:
"And if your demonstrated ability lacks what the Colonel and I are expecting, then rest-assure, a change will be made."
Admiral Malc looked to Colonel Barada:
"Colonel, send updates to the bridge's command console, standard encryption....
He paused a moment,
"...and see to it that our new second officer has every opportunity to confirm her superior's confidence in her.
With that said, Admiral Malc exited the ready-room and headed for the bridge.

She watched him as he walked, and reserved forming an opinion. Realizing more then ever the extreme differences and reminding herself to be patient, observe, and listen. It was time for adjustments to be made.
She looked at the Colonel and waited to see if her question would be answered. Apparently he was finished as well. She would access a defination for that expression on the computer in her quarters.
"Is that all Colonel?"

"Pardon me for speaking in colloquialisms, Sub-Commander. A habit that does not lend itself to meaningful communications. I will make a note of it."
"You command authorizations have been activated. As such you are fully capable of carrying out your functions here. Familiarize yourself with the Intel that we have been sending out to the rest of the fleet. Other than that, please familiarize yourself with ship operations. That should be enough to get started, Sub-Commander."
"Do you require anything from me?"

Admiral Malc entered the ready-room with the colonel. Instead of heading for his customary seat, behind his desk, the Admiral headed for the replicator, got himself a black coffee, and sat down on one of the sofas that were in the room.
"Colonel, we seem to be in a bit of a quandary." The Admiral said, taking a drink of his coffee.
"With the President possibly being dead, and with all the new Intel we are receiving concerning the invaders and some cloning-device..." He trailed-off , and took another drink of his coffee, then continued:
"I would be well-within my rights to declare a form of marshal-law within federation-space.....but I'm not sure that is the best solution, as it may serve to hamper our people more than the invaders. Your thoughts?" The Admiral asked, as he took another drink of his coffee.

::Colonel Barada considered the Admiral's words carefully, making what sounded like a purring sound.::"Admiral, the Federation trusted you to return to lead this fight. You were an ambassador, chief ambassador as a matter of fact. I state these things because they are facts."
"I believe that the President has been compromised. And that is how the Invaders were able to ambush his transport and for all we know, he may very well be dead, especially since we have received no demands and no ransom message. There is not enough Intel to determine either way. But whatever state he is in, he is not in a position to lead the Federation at this juncture."
"Since he has been compromised, it stands to reason that it was from within either the political or the Starfleet arm of the Federation. Most likely the political arm. Which means that we quite probably have invaders masquerading in the upper echelons of our political system."
"Admiral, we are at war---quite likely from at least two fronts. I would go so far as to recommend blood screening, similar to what was done during the Dominion War. That having been said, and based on the facts presented, I feel it the duty of Starfleet to take control of this situation until it is brought under control. And while the Council may feel-----reluctant-----I believe that they have enough confidence in you to allow this and to allow Starfleet to do what must be done."

Admiral Malc leaned-back, into the sofa that he was sitting on. He knew that a decision needed to be made, and that time was a definite factor, because if the Colonel was right, and the Federation had been compromised by the invaders, then the ramifications of procrastinating would be immeasurable.
He took another drink of his coffee, then stood-up, and looking at the Colonel said:
"Notify the regional commanders that we require a verified sample from each of them, and retinal confirmation as well. Once we have all of the regional commanders confirmed, we will announce mandatory screening of all political and star-fleet personnel with a security clearance of beta-two and above."
The Admiral heard the chime, and looked to the Colonel.

Adml Heath Malc: Admiral Malc Looked to his PADD and noticed the red-light blinking....
Barada:: ::Barada looked at the Admiral. Seeing the alert.::
Fritz Sheldon: -Fritz hand moves over the control panel as he checks the section updates that were coming-in -
Adml Heath Malc: He got up from the sofa and went to his desk, and read the encrypted message
Adml Heath Malc: "Colonel...it appears we have a confirmed report of a mimic." :::Hands PADD to Colonel Barada
Barada: ::Takes the PADD from Admiral Malc and scans it quickly.:: It would appear so, Admiral. Your orders?
Jayden Ariko: ::Jayden is in her Ready Room onboard Numeria, going over the latest intel reports and tactical situation of her fleet::
Adml Heath Malc: "Well, we need to get someone to that area....quietly.....someone who would be familiar with advanced technology, and has the proper background"
Barada: ::Barada nods:: Sounds like a mission for R&D, Admiral. Is there anyone available? It is my understanding that all personnel have been deployed.
Jayden Ariko: ::She makes a few notes to go over with Lt. Commander Arroway and Lt. Blair::
Adml Heath Malc: :::Admiral Malc taps some keys on his console, looking at the R&D personnel:::
Adml Heath Malc: "Yes, it appears you are right....but this is going to have to take priority."
Adml Heath Malc: "We have two R&D personnel with sufficient clearance...Captain Washington and Commander Ariko."
Adml Heath Malc: "Suggestions?"
Barada: Agreed. Commander Ariko was chief. Has worked extensively with AI aboard Serenity.
Adml Heath Malc: Okay...contact Commander Ariko, and tell her we need to relieve her of command....
Adml Heath Malc: Send the specifics on a seperate frequency.....
Adml Heath Malc: :::Taps Comm badge::: "Malc to Lt.Sheldon; set a course for the Bajor-sector, maximum warp"
Fritz Sheldon: :::Recieves orders from Malc::: "Aye sir, Bajor sector, Maximum Warp."
Barada: ::Nods and walks over to the Comm console. Quickly types out a messaage and encrypts. The Colonel sends via the Covert Communications Network along with the dtata collected.:: Message sent, Admiral.
Fritz Sheldon: :::Looks to Lieutenant at helm::: "Plot a course to the Bajran sector, maximum warp. Engage when the course is laid in."
Jayden Ariko: ::She sees her message alert on her monitor. Inputting her access codes, she activates the message::
Fritz Sheldon: npcHELM: "Aye sir." :::Hands fly across panel, laying-in course::: "Course plotted, engaging sir. ETA 8 hours 17 minutes."
Fritz Sheldon: :::Nods and taps comm::: "Admiral, we're on our way, ETA is eight hours."
Adml Heath Malc: :::Taps comm::: "Understood; Malc out."
Jayden Ariko: ::Her brow furrowing a bit, she reads it over, then again::
Adml Heath Malc: "Colonel, we'll need to take command of the Numeria until we find a suitable replacement...also..."
Barada: ::Listens::
Adml Heath Malc: "I want to leak-out a message that the Commander is replaced...due to a charge of misconduct..... this will throw-off any "invaders" who recieve this message."
Adml Heath Malc: "I want this kept completely under wraps"
Jayden Ariko: ::She leans back in her chair a bit, mulling over the message::
Jayden Ariko: ::with a small sigh, she sits up again, closes and deletes the message, then taps her comm:: Lt. Commander Xavven Arroway, you have command of Numeria, effective immediately. Please have my Captain's Yacht readied.
Jayden Ariko: ::She closes the comm, then stands, looking at her desk once more before leaving her Ready Room::
Barada:::The Colonel looked at the Admiral. :: I can make that so. Will handle with Covert Ops Branch.
Adml Heath Malc: "Make it so."

:Sara would walk into the ready room and stand in front of the Colonel and Fleet Admiral: "Hello sirs i am Ensign Sara Kushani reporting for duty. " ::Colonel Barada looked at the ensign. This woman must be quite talented to be assigned to the Fleet intelligence vessel fresh out of the Academy.::
"Your orders, Ensign." ::He stated and waited for Ensign Kushani to give him the PADD she was carrying. The Colonel took it and reviewed irt quickly.::
"Your assignment, Ensign?" ::He waited for Kushani's response.::

Admiral Malc watched the exchange with interest, and when asked if he had anything to add, he nodded his head:
"The only thing I have to add, is that I suspect Sub Commander Reha Khev is waiting for the ensign on the bridge."
