Can an old man be more happier to see a good friend after so long? I think not!
He laughs as Brock playfully slaps his arm and he playfully slaps him back.
Now have you ever known someone to turn down food? I know I haven't, but I do say my good man you have been busy. Making this place your own. Has that whole musky man smell in it along with the decorations that makes a man feel at home.

Thank you Alex. That's kind of what I was shooting for. You know I'm really starting to feel comfortable here. More at home on this ship than ever before.
I still have some more things to put up, but the main theme is here.
::He poured them each a glass of Scotch:: I'm glad you stopped by, Alex, but tell me, what brings you here? Anything I can do for you?
::He handed the glass to the marine and was thinking of a toast::

He took the glass that was offered to him remembering what Scotch does to him.
What brings me here good man is a transmission from a cadet who served with me long ago. She's a hurting soul much like yourself. She contacted me now the Xo of the Numeria. I think she maybe at another one of her emotional cross roads. I helped her through the last one so many years ago because I saw potential in her. I knew if she let herself she could do great things and now she is. But with the war I am unable to go to her, so instead I have elected to send someone perhaps more towards her age rang to her to help her through this ruff time. I was wondering if you would be that person.
He figured he might as well come out and say it before he got too out there in Scotch land.

The XO of the Numeria, huh? and you want me to go there and visit her for you?
::He thought of Alex's words "Emotional crossroads" for a moment.::
I think I understand what you're getting at, Alex. Are you trying to say that I may have something in common with her? I appreciate that thought but as you said yourself, we have a war going on and Numeria's in the Bajor sector. The Captain needs me here just like we need you. It was hard enough to get to the Durango but it'd be a hell of a trick to get out there right now. Sol sector's locked up as is Bajor sector. And even if I were to do this, I'm not much of a counselor.
::He brought the food to the table for them.::
But anyway, tell me about this person. I don't know the Numeria's current roster right now, now that Ariko is gone.
Are these "Emotional crossroads anything like ...mine?

Her name is Christina Rivers. She's bright young women. Much like you are a bright young man. Her first cross roads was around the issue of trust. If she didn't chose to trust me she wouldn't be alive right now. Now she has come to another, but this one is much too difficult for an old fossil like myself to deal with. She needs a young man to help her mend. Since her mother's death she has been closed off to the possibility of friendship even to the point of blocking out happiness and even love. Now she sees me as the mentor so that is why she reached out.
He sighed a bit.
I do hope someone close by her is able to help her out then if we all can't sit down and have a talk with her. Normally it takes a lot of pressure for her even to encrypt say things. But then again I could be just a sentimental old fool just missing the good old days.
He sat back and put his hands behind his head after putting his glass down.
So in short you can say she is somewhat where you are at. You two kids would be good for each other at least to begin the healing process.

Well, you know, Alex, ::He begins, taking a bite of his food:: It sounds as if Christina is lucky to have a mentor like you. It seems to me that she's reaching out to you right now. I don't how she'd react to a stranger coming around even if I am a friend of yours.
::He sat back in his seat, taking a drink.::
I'd certainly like to meet her, we have things in common as you say, emotional crossroads, We're both XO's of our respective ships. Maybe when things settle a bit with these damned imposters you'll introduce us and we'll talk.
::He smiles at the Bolian::
And if you're trying to play matchmaker, old friend, I very much appreciate that. I guess it's no secret that I've divorced Shian. But Alex, I'm not a desperate man. I don't think I could start another relationship right now. Friendship, yes. And if there's one thing I've learned in this recent experience it's that I have friends that I can rely on. This Christina must be a hell of a person for you to think of her as you do, and that's good enough for me. If I can get to the Numeria, I will but frankly I doubt the Captain will want to spare me.
And speaking of the good old days, Alex, You don't have to be old to long for those. I often do.
My last two years at the academy were spent aboard a training vessel. Starfleet didn't have one to spare us, so we had to rebuild one. It was the Hathaway. And old Constellation class ship that was about to be junked.
I rebuild her warp core. The other cadets did their respective specialties. She was a good ship when we got done with her. Better than the origional. I miss that old girl.
We had a lot of adventures-and misadventures on that ship. I lost my best friend on that ship from an attack by Orien pirates. They saw us as easy meat. The figured they'd strip the ship down for all our resources and materials. They thought wrong. I blamed myself for my friend Barry's death for a long time until....someone set me straight. Talk about your emotional crossroads! That one took me a long time to cross.
I'm a survivor Alex. I survived that and I'll survive this divorce. I sometimes wonder which one is worse, though.
::He poured them each another drink and raised his glass::
To the good old days. may we never forget them, and may we look foreward to good days yet to come.

I can drink to that.
He raises the drink up as a toast and then takes a big old drink of it.
I'm not one to play match maker. I know you are a surviver just by the way you are. She is too much of a surviver to really know what to do with herself. Christina that is. I do try to help her but this time she's some were that she needs someone who understands where she is at to try and get at her. I talked to her about a friend of mine once and she's not too overly apprehensive if she knows that the person is someone I trust a great deal.
He then looks at the table for a bit.
Man that drink has a kick to her. Would have knocked me on my butt if not for me already sitting down!
He starts in with a hardy laugh.

::He smiles, glad that Alex is enjoying the whiskey.::
This is a very good blend of scotch and very old. It was given to me by someone special and I only take it out on certain occasions. That's how glad I am that you stopped by to keep me company.
So tell me about your old ship, Alex. The freighter too.

The two women I will never see again. The first lady was all too kind to me. I started out scrubbing tolits on her and then moved up the ranks quickly gaining the trust of the Captain. He was a good man, but the end was all to quick almost all hands were lost when she went. Then after medical leave I went to Captain freight....that's how I got Patches. That goat is more truble then a couple of hand cuffs. I shipted out live or organic cargo. That was to keep me from the guns. I might have used them a few times if I had anything to do with it.
He started giggling uncontroably.
Did give me plenty of time to scare people with my singing.
Almost falls out of the chair.
Oh boy I'm not one to hold this crap too great, but a couple good drinks with a good friend can't pass that down. That's how I made friends with the good Captain who went down with his ship. That man...he could sing. I can't...at least that's what the not so drunk people tell me when I start up with the dancing and singing at the sametime. Oh, man those were crazy days. So how are you adjusting to your role as XO?

::He smiled listening to the Bolian's story. Sat back relaxing::
How am I adjusting to being an XO? Well, the Captain seems to think I'm doing satisfactory.
It's just that there's been a good bit of adjusting to do. I adjusted to the Concord, and after the battle we had in the Gamma quadrant I felt like that ship really trusted me. She knew I cared about her and was trying to help her. I think that's what brought us home.
The, I got married, and began to adjust to married life. It wasn;t that hard. I rather liked it. Then I was given a command test and was made second officer on the Concord. I never really even got to function in that manner because shortly after that, Three new ships were commissioned and I somehow got on the list to be an XO for one of them.
Commander Ariko had asked me to come on the Numeria with her, but she had already found an excellent chief helmsman and Shian and I wanted to stay together, of course.
Captain Washington then asked me and agreed to take us both. I couldn't say no. I had a chance to wok under one of the most experienced officers in the fleet. A modern day rennaissance man, as he's been considered.
It wasn't easy getting used to the bridge and not the engine room. I suppose I'm still adjusting to that, but I'm getting to like it.
And now......We're at war and I'm once again adjusting. Back to being single. Just being the XO, that's been the easiest part. Finding out some rather unpleasant things about your wife, that's been a lot absorb and accept. But I'm a Troglyte. We've been adapting and we've learned to overcome hardships. I like to think I'm doing the same.
Ever been married, Alex? ::He poured himself another drink::

I have been married and if not for the Dominion War my wife would be with me still physically. I carry with me the memories of her. We were married young and our children are all grown. Troglyte or not I hope you never have to experience the death of one you love simply because of the profession you are in.
He was there to help his friend not to dwell on the past so he didn’t say much.
One day you must meat Christian you two are far to similar to not meet up some how some way….The things she survived its amazing she talks to men let alone work with them. Any friend of mine in her book tends to earn brownie points.
He then starts up a slow chuckle before going out into an all out belly laugh.
You two kids would get along well even if this old hoot wasn’t making silly pictures in his head.

I'm very sorry to hear about your wife, Alex. ::He sipped his drink:: I think that one of my biggest fears when this war started was the prospect of losing Shian in a battle, or worse, her being captured or something like that. In a strange way, I think I'm glad she's home. While I may not be happy about the circumstances, at least she's safe and alive. I can live with that easier, I think then having to face her death.
Lets just hope that when this Imposter fleet gets here we kick their butts and then maybe I'll hop over to the Numeria and meet Christina.
::He began to gather the dishes to take back to the replicator::
I have a couple Strawberry tarts here, bye the way. Know anyone who'd be interested?

He was just about on the floor laughing at this point hardly hearing a word that was being said and then came back around after almost falling out the chair. A bit on the hammered side.
Well good man I think anyone in their right mind like anything.

::Brock served up the tarts.:: Ok, Kind sir. after this I'm sending you to bed. I don;t want to be accused of inebriating my MCO so badly he can't work and is too hung over. But we'll have to do this more often. It was great just hanging out here with you for a bit, but we all need to be on our toes with the party we've got coming up.
::He sat down again:: Alex is it me or does it seem like the imposters lack something as a people. They no doubt have a society of some kind kind, but I've seen no evidnce of culture with these people. No art, or music, or cuisine, or dance. What's your take on all that?

Post by alex on Apr 19, 2007 20:07:21 GMT -5
They are warriors maybe their thinkers and artist and even records of such things are in their world. Military or not these people we deal with are only a fraction of perhaps a vast society we managed in our dealings in this realm tick off enough to come here and start a fight. That's my take on it. For a solider without a good bottle of scotch isn't much of a man now is he?
As for bed I never go there cause rascal Patches likes the bed too much. I sleep on the floor most night.
This time he was giggling a bit.
That man needs a women or a companion to make trouble with before he ends up head butting himself into another dimension.
Now he was full out giggling his butt off.
