Brock Dantara: ::The lounge had been open and Brock began to lead the displaced crewmen in so that they could sit and be comfortable. They certainly all needed it and deserved it. Morale had begun to improve as he announced that there would be quarters opening up on three decks.::
T0RlANNA: ::Torianna had spoken to Brock and learned that the Admiral wanted the lounge open and the crew of the Guardian brought there, giving them a more comfortable place to sit and rest. She was glad to hear that the Admiral had spoken to Brock about assigning quarters to the crewmembers once the decks were all opened. She walked with several of the crew, assisting one on crutches as they followed Brock to the lounge.::
Brock Dantara: ::Brock was greeting and hugging members of his crew for support. He had only wished that there was more that he could be doing for them. Though his eyes were tired and sunken, his face grew bright as he saw Torianna bringing crew to the lounge. He could only smile at the sight of her, but saw that all this was taking its toll on her now as well.::
T0RlANNA: ::As she neared the entrance to the lounge, her eyes came to rest on Brock as he stood there greeting the members of his crew with warm, caring hugs. She felt a her heart as it began to pound softly in her chest and she stopped for a moment to think on this. It was a heartwarming sight to see the members of the crew and how they reacted to Brock's greeting and she smiled a weary smile. She saw that he was looking at her and her smile grew brighter, although the many hours on duty had most definitely taken a toll on her. She walked a bit slower and when seated, she had to fight to keep her eyes opened if there was too long of a lull in the conversation. As she neared him, still assisting the crewmember on crutches, she looked into his eyes as she spoke softly:: I think this is the rest of your crew, Lt. Commander, other than a few that chose to stay and help the crew of the Optimus or the ones that have gone to visit with members of the Tahoe's crew. Brock Dantara: Thank you so much Torianna. I'm very upset about the Tahoe's crew. fifteen life pods. ::Shakes his head:: Capt. Kaz must be going out of her mind. I wish I could do something for her,But a starship Captain has to mourn these things in their own way. ::He smiles and squeezed her arm:: And you are looking exhausted. Please let me get you something to eat, and I'd like you to get some rest yourself.
T0RlANNA: ::Torianna nods, hearing his words in regard to the Tahoe.:: There is no need to thank me for doing my job, Lt. Commander, it is a job I usually enjoy but I must admit that it does take a bit of a toll. The loss has been great, so many lives cut short by the impostors. ::She shook her head, sending her long hair flying about her face:: And what kind of species would fire upon and destroy life pods filled with those they knew to be defenseless? As for the Captain of the Tahoe, she is surrounded by crewmembers that remain near her, despite her repeated requests for them to leave. I have wanted to talk to her but will wait, she has those familiar to her surrounding her now and although she might not admit it or even realize it now, the fact that they around her must be comforting. As for mourning, I think we all will mourn the losses, some more than others but each in our own way. ::She looked down to see his hand upon her arm as she felt the gentle squeeze. Looking back up into his eyes, she smiled softly:: Yes, I am feeling a bit hungry, I cannot remember when last I ate a meal. As for rest, although I admit that it sounds absolutely delightful at this moment, I will not rest until your crew and the crew of the Tahoe have been assigned quarters and are settled within them. I will then get several hours rest before I open my office, making myself available to all who might need to talk.
Brock Dantara: Alright, then, ::Looks around the lounge:: There's a small empty table back there in the corner, why don;t you go grab it, and I'll hit the replicator. What would you like to eat? I'll get it for you, and maybe a little surprise. something that helps me when I'm overtired. Don;t worry, it isn't any kind of drug. ::Chuckles::
T0RlANNA: ::She smiled as her gaze followed his as he scanned the room. The small table he indicated was set in a corner and away from most now seated within the lounge. She nodded:: That table looks perfect, Lt. Commander. As for what I would like to eat, I think I will keep it light and have a salad with grilled chicken. It is a meal I grew quite fond of while attending the Academy on Earth. I trust you and did not even give thought to the possibility that your surprise would include any type of drug. ::A hand went up to cover her mouth as she yawned, then chuckled along with him:: I will go and save you a place at the table and await your company as well as your surprise. ::A smile spread across her face as she turned and made her way to the small table in the corner.::
Brock Dantara: ::Brock heads for the replicator, deciding to have the grilled chicken salad as well. He hated making food choices at times, unless it was something he cooked himself. He also ordered two cups of Ardanan java, hoping she would like it. He brought the food to the table, and served her plate to her, then sat. He picked up one of the cups.:: This is called Ardanan Java. it's from my home planet. I don;t know how good the recipe is on this ship, but it has a bit of a kick to it.
T0RlANNA: ::Torianna sat at the table and watched him as he replicated their meals, then headed toward her. She watched the pride evident in the way he carried himself despite the exhaustion that showed within his eyes and face. She smiled as he reached the table, handing her a plate before taking a seat. She listened as he told her of the Ardanan Java and reached for the other cup, bringing it upwards to enjoy it's aroma.:: If it tastes as good as it smells, I think I just might have a new favorite drink. ::She brought the cup to her lips and took a sip, tasting the sweetness that mixed well with the strong pungent brew. She smiled as she lowered the cup back to the table.:: It has a delightful taste, Lt. Commander, thank you for introducing me to it.
Brock Dantara: I'm glad you like it. Since you won't get some sleep right now, it will at least keep you going for a while. I decided on the Chicken salad as well. It's not bad. Although I usually don't like replicated meat. I'm in no position to be choosy right now, though. Torianna, I wish I had the words to convey my gratitude for what you've been doing for my crew. You are truly an angel of mercy in these trying times. ::Sighs::
T0RlANNA: ::Torianna chuckled softly:: Then we have something in common, for I am not fond of replicated meat either. The truth be told, I am not fond of most replicated foods. ::Her facial expression then turned somber as she reached across the table, placing her hand to his forearm.:: Lt. Commander, I chose the medical field and specialized in psychotherapy because of my desire to help others. I agree these are the most trying of times but I am pleased that I can be here to offer support and help to the crew. I just wish there was more I could do, I wish I could make sense of it all as well. As for your gratitude, I see it in your eyes, I feel it here ::As her free hand moved to her chest, coming to rest over her heart. She gave his forearm a gentle squeeze.:: It warms me to see how you are with your crew and their response to you. They think very highly of you, Lt. Commander, as do I. ::A soft blush colored her cheeks as she spoke those words and she lowered her eyes for a moment as she lifted the fork and brought a forkful of salad to her mouth.::
Brock Dantara: I care very much about them, Torianna. We may not have a ship any longer but that doesn't end my responsibility to them. We can always build another ship, but leaders like Kendrell Washington can't be replicated.::He took a drink of he java:: I hate to say that I'm no stranger to loss. I've been facing it ever since I entered Starfleet. Starting when I was a Cadet. I sometimes feel I'm being tested. It seems like as soon as I heal one wound, another is made. Twice now, I've paid for the party with my dearest blood. ::Pauses:: I'm sorry, I shouldn't be burdening you with my problems. You have enough on your plate as it is.
T0RlANNA: ::Torianna nodded:: Your caring and concern is very evident, Lt. Commander. It shows in your words and your actions. You are an honorable man and I could not imagine you shirking responsibility. I am sorry that I never had the opportunity or pleasure to meet Captain Washington. He must have been a very special man, as well as a fine Captain for the crew to feel about him as they do. ::She paused for a moment, then continued:: I think at times, most of us have felt like we are being tested in one way or another. As for burdening me, please rest assured that it is not a burden at all. I am very interested in hearing of your problems and sharing the burden with you, if you allow me to. ::Her eyes then met with his and held a deep gaze as she waited for him to speak::
Brock Dantara: Alright. And I think that your heart is perhaps bigger than the warp core of this ship. ::Smiles:: You are a very dedicated Counselor. ::He sat back in the chair for a moment:: My 3rd year at the academy, I lost my best friend. Killed by an Orion pirate. They raided our training vessel. We repelled them, but Barry didn't make it. I killed that Orion with my bare hands. And he was a big one. That's how angry I was. I was on my way to back him up, but when I got to that deck, Barry was dead with the pirate standing over him. If I had been a minute sooner I might have saved him. I blamed myself for years, until someone set me straight. There are some other tales related to that one. I won't bore you with everything now. I think what has hit me the hardest, worse than phaser fire, is the fact that, at the onset of this war,.....My wife left me. She was Helmsman on the Concord and I was the Chief Engr when we met. We had a great marriage, a great relationship, until one day she was just....gone. I feel stupid even talking about it right now. Supposedly, her Father had taken ill so she went home to New France. I later found out that her Father was fine. She's back with her old boyfriend on New France.
No good-bye. No letter. No explanation. Wouldn't accept any communication from me.
T0RlANNA: ::Torianna was very attentive, she nodded in understanding.:: I am glad someone set you straight. ::She gave him a soft smile and waited for him to continue. She listened to his words, feeling the pain in a way that maybe one day she would explain to him but for now, she would simply listen and respond in the way she responds to others. She needed to figure out how and why this man caused the feelings he did within her, why she was opened to all the pain he was feeling, sharing it in a way perhaps he will not be able to understand. She spoke softly, her voice nearly a whisper:: I am thankful to whoever it was that convinced you that what happened to Barry was not your fault, I am just sorry you suffered for years with the guilt before that happened. ::Her expression grew serious:: Please, Lt. Commander, never feel stupid talking to me about anything, I am truly interested and will never judge you. As for your wife leaving you, I see that as her great loss. I could not begin to even guess why a woman would leave a great marriage and a great relationship in such a way, in fact, even if there were problems and she had come to me, I would have made an attempt to help her find ways to resolve the conflicts or fix the problems. I am of the a species that holds personal relationships in high regard. As for her lying about her father, then leaving without a goodbye or a letter, that does not sound like someone who loves another in the way a wife should love a husband. I must ask you, were there any signs she was unhappy, dissatisfied with the marriage? Also, have you heard any word from her since?
Brock Dantara: The day before she left, we had made a pledge to each other that either we both come home from this war, or neither of us do. Shian and I were joined at the hip practically. And she didn't lie about her Father, there was a communication sent to the effect that he was ill and needed her home. I've heard nothing from her, as I said. I did, however, get some other information from a third party......A...Sibling, kind of. He told me some unpleasant things.
T0RlANNA: ::Torianna had thoughts on the matter but she would remain silent about her own thoughts for now. She looked to him and asked softly:: What are the unpleasant things you have been told?
Brock Dantara: Shian's Father is a prominent businessman, and a snob. He didn't think that I was good enough for her because I'm a Troglyte. Had I been a descendant of my planet's former aristocracy, that would have been different. Also, she lost a brother to the Dominion war, so her Father wanted her home, he didn't want to lose another child to war. That I could understand My people fought long and hard to gain their rights and their freedom. And now this man judges me because of what I am. I have a hard time with that. I can't get rid of the anger and the resentment. And being "excommunicated" doesn't go over with me too well either. She could have just told me. I feel selfish right now. Here I am going on about my problems when we have a war going on. I shouldn't be thinking about this at all. I've had a lot of support from our CNS and even Admiral Salas. ::Finishes his salad:: I feel kind of selfish right now. Here I am going on about my problems when we have a war going on. I shouldn't be thinking about this at all.
T0RlANNA: ::Torianna had listened to each word, she would now attempt to handle him gently, feeling his anger and resentment:: Lt. Commander, I need to ask you. Is your anger and resentment directed at your wife or her father and as far as you feeling selfish, I can assure you that it is very normal for you to be dealing with this issue now, while we all are enduring the pain of loss...loss of life, loss of friends and family. Do you really think it is strange that you are thinking of your personal loss as well? ::She had felt her heart sink, hearing that he was married, even with his wife gone, he was still not free. She fought hard to hide her disappointment as she waited for his response.::
Brock Dantara: Well, I'm angry at her Father, I think because he represents every my people fought to overcome. I'm angry at Shian for abandoning me the way she did. For breaking a promise we made to each other, that we would never keep secrets and always be open to one another, good or bad. She broke that promise. She lied to me. And you only get to lie to a Troglyte once. The last communication I sent her was the divorce papers. It went uncontested so the divorce is now final. And you know what else?
I took all of her stuff, our quarters were decorated in new France. I had it beamed into space. And she must have heard about Guardian by now. Did she contact Starfleet headquarters on New France? no. You would think she would at least want to know I'm alive. What the h*ll kind of family does she have? What kind of people are they?
T0RlANNA: ::Torianna felt a wave of guilty over the joy that filled her upon her hearing he was divorced. Unconsciously she shook her head in an attempt to rid herself of such thoughts. What is wrong with you, she asked herself within her own thoughts, thoughts now interrupted by his question. As she listened to him speak of what he did with all of her stuff, she smiled:: It is good therapy when one can rid themselves of constant reminders. ::Then hearing his latest words, she felt compelled to respond, knowing he may not like what she had to say:: Lt. Commander, I know that it helps with some of the pain when you put a good majority of the blame on her father and her family. Shian, is an adult and as such, could have stood up to her father and contacted you. She could have sent a goodbye or contacted Starfleet upon hearing the news of the Guardian. ::Once again she reached across the table, this time placing her hand on top of his and squeezing.:: A promise made between two in love should never be broken and I must believe that both parties would fight to the death any that stood in the way of them keeping their promise. I think that Shian, for whatever reason is where she wants to be. I know thinking in such a way would be difficult, but I feel in the end it might help the anger subside and I think this because I believe deep down inside, you already know this. The pain of lost love and rejection is probably the worst pain of all for it is one of choice. The pain of someone dying, even before their time is a deep pain but it is not usually the choice of the person to die....the pain of rejection is one of choice and that makes the survivor suffer far greater pain.
Brock Dantara: ::Nods:: That could well be. And to be honest, part of me is glad she left. At least she's safe. Not on the bridge of a ship with me where I could worry about her or be distracted by her. And if this is what she wanted, fine. I just think she could have told me, or written a letter. Just to have closure. Right now there is none.
T0RlANNA: ::Torianna fought hard to keep her emotions in check and not allow him to sense it at all. In his honesty, telling her that part of him is glad she left and hearing his reasons made her heart feel chilled. A man scarred in the way he had been, would be very hesitant to enter another relationship where he might feel distracted or have to worry. In her exhaustion, emotions usually held in check were closer to the surface and she fought the tears back that threatened to fill her eyes.:: Yes, she could have told you, by word spoken or written but perhaps the guilt she feels prevents her from doing so. Often people avoid standing up to make admissions, as it is so much easier to find reasons not to. Lt. Commander, there can be closure in silence as well. How long has it been since she left? Brock Dantara: ::Thinks:: Not that long. Guardian was launched just before the war. I'd say a couple months at least, maybe more. With the war I lose track of time. You have a great deal of wisdom beyond your years, Torianna. and you can call me Brock. I'm not on duty now. ::Smiles again:: Do you have a nickname, or something you like to be called? not that there's anything wrong with your name, I was just wondering.
T0RlANNA: ::Torianna would fight once again to keep her emotions from showing, the internal battle a difficult one for this is the first time her emotions had given her such a problem. Who was this man that sat across the table from her and what was it about him that made him so different from the others that had tried to break down the barriers she had so carefully erected. She cleared her throat and then spoke softly:: I am honored that you feel I have wisdom, Lt.... I mean Brock ::A soft blush rising to her cheeks as she said his name. His smile began to warm where her heart had begun to cool, she shook her head:: No, no one has ever given me a nickname. I will share a secret with you though, there have been times when I had wished I had a special nickname, those times occurring when I heard the nicknames used that my friends had been given. ::Her eyes met his once again and she smiled::
Brock Dantara: Hmm ::He pondered:: How about Tori? May I call you that?
T0RlANNA: ::She heard the nickname as it flowed off his tongue and she felt a warm shiver race through her:: Yes, Brock, I would be honored if you would call me that. It sounds....it sounds very nice when you say it.
Brock Dantara: Thank you. Tori it is, then. I think it fits you well. Pretty name, pretty girl. ::He gives her a boyish smile:: Actually to say "Pretty" is a profound understatement. And while I could talk to you for hours on end, I'm afraid we need to get back to the Zenite mines. ::Laughs::
T0RlANNA: ::A warm flush rose to color her cheeks:: No Brock, thank you. ::She saw his boyish smile and felt herself enthralled by him at that moment. His words that followed served to deepen that blush and although she wished they could continue talking forever, she was relieved in a way that it was time for them to return to seeing to the crew. Her soft laughter joined with his:: Yes, Sir, back to the mines we go.::With that said, she rose and began to clear the table.:: I enjoyed your company and our talk. Thank you, Brock.
Brock Dantara: ::He stood:: Thank you, Tori. Again I can't put into words how grateful I am for everything you've done to help my crew and Tahoe's crew as well, I'm sure. I hope we can talk like this again soon.
T0RlANNA: ::She smiled and nodded:: I hope so as well, Brock. You have an exceptional crew and it is my pleasure to help them, each and every one. Once they are assigned quarters, I will have my office open to all.
Brock Dantara: That's wonderful. And I hear we have babies onboard as well. ::Smiles:: I hope they are doing well.
T0RlANNA: ::A soft look passed over her face at the mention of the babies:: Yes, I have met them. They are absolutely adorable little twin girls.
Brock Dantara: I have no doubt. Babies have a way of bringing joy to the worst situations sometimes. I've met Cmdr Richardson. If you see them please send my regards. ::They begin to mingle again with the crews of both ships::
T0RlANNA: Yes, I agree and I will be sure to give her your best when I see her. ::She moved about the lounge, talking to the crewmembers and then with a wave to Brock, she headed out the door to go and check on the crew of the Tahoe and their Captain.::

Some time passed before Brock and Torianna would see each other again.
Brock had mingled among the crews of the Guardian and the Tahoe.
Torianna had spent time mingling with the crew and speaking with Admiral Malc, then went to the aid of a crewmember before Brock once again entered the holding area.

Brock Dantara: ::Brock approached Torianna when he saw the CMO doing triage and getting her out of the cargo bay area:: Torianna, what happened to Kay? That's my CNS! What's wrong with her? Torianna: ::Torianna looked into Brock's eyes as she spoke softly:: We are not sure right now. As I was talking with the Admiral, I heard someone moan and turned around to see Kay rolling over. Of course, I went to her right away to see if she needed my help. ::Placing her hand firmly to his arm, she squeezed it.:: Let's find somewhere to sit down and I will tell you all I know. Brock Dantara: ::Nods:: Alright. I hope she's going to be OK. ::follows Torianna:: Torianna: ::She leaves the holding area and returns to the Lounge, both of them walking slower than normal, sheer exhaustion had set in. Her lips did curl in a smile when she saw that the table they had sat at last time here was cleared and empty. She led the way to the table and took a seat, looking up to him with that soft smile:: Brock Dantara: ::He sat, sighing in worry.:: What is her condition? What happened to her? Torianna: ::She not only saw the worry in his facial expressions but she felt it, she spoke softly:: Brock, I do not know what happened to her, we did not get much of a chance to talk. ::She paused for just a moment, for as much as she disliked having to break the news to him, she would not keep it from him, not even for a short time.:: She has no feeling in her legs, actually she feels nothing from the waist down and has no movement in her legs. Brock Dantara: ::He put his head down, holding his forehead with one hand.:: Now I'm angry. Not that I wasn't before, but now this. She may never walk again, depending on the extent of that injury. BY the Gods below us, I swear those b*stards are going to pay. ::Takes a deep breath.:: I'm normally a peace loving man but these creatures deserve no sympathy. They;re not even people. They have to mimic us, because they are nothing! Torianna: ::Torianna shared his pain but Brock would have no way of knowing this, she felt his anger and rage as well. A slight tremble ran through her, then she stood, moving behind him and with skilled fingers, she began to massage his shoulders and neck in an attempt to relieve some of the stress and tension. She spoke in a soft and soothing tone.:: I understand why you feel as you do, Brock. I share those feelings. I wish we knew more about these creatures and could find a way to destroy them all. Brock Dantara: ::Nods:: We learn more each day. And I'll be damned if I give in to an adversary the likes of them. There IS a way to stop them and we're going to find it. We've always found ways before. We'll find one now. We just have to have heart. And that is one thing they don;t have. Hearts.::Takes Torianna's hand:: thank you. But I don;t think it would be a good idea for the Admiral to see me getting a massage, as much as I'd like one right now. ::Her touch was almost magical, he thought. He didn't want her to stop, but it would not be fair of him to have any special attention:: Torianna: ::Torianna nodded but it would be a nod he would not see as she remained behind him, continuing the massage.:: I am sure there is a way to destroy them and with men like you, determined to do so, I have no doubt that it will indeed come to be. Yes, hearts....::As he took her hand, stopping her from massaging his neck and shoulders, she felt a wave of disappointment pass over her. She had been enjoying the feeling of his muscles as they began to release a bit of the tension into her skilled hands so her disappointment was great but she would not argue with him or give challenge to his decision:: I understand Brock, perhaps another time. Now, while I am up, can I get you something to eat or drink? ::She fought to keep the disappointment off of her face.:: Brock Dantara: I only wish that I was the leader Kendrell was. Look at them. They need to hear something inspiring. If Kendrell were here he'd have these people fired up. Torianna: ::Hearing his words, moved so that she could look into his eyes:: You are as good of a leader as any other, you just need to find it within yourself to believe that....believe in YOU for you have the inner strength, I know you do. Brock Dantara: Yes, some iced Vulcan tea would be great......And Torianna,.......I'd love to have a raincheck on that massage. ::Smiles:: You really think so? Because these people need to hear something. Captain Kaz is a little traumatized right now. Someone needs to step up to the plate. Torianna: As for getting these people fired up, I have no doubt that you will find a way to do just that. ::nodding:: Yes, I really think so, in fact, I am so sure of it, I would even say that I KNOW so. Brock Dantara: ::Smiles:: I wish I believed in Me as much as you seem to. The Admiral can't do it all himself. Torianna: ::Torianna looked to him and smiled:: Let me get the drinks and we can continue this discussion upon my return. ::With that said, she turned and walked to the replicator and decided to get two iced Vulcan teas, replicating tall frosty glasses and before returning to the table, she replicated a small platter full of different cheeses, crackers and fruits. Placing it all on a tray, she carried it to the table and after sliding the tray to the table, she sat next to him and smiled:: Now, about that raincheck, I do not see why that cannot be arranged. Is my word good enough or do you want the raincheck in writing? ::she chuckled softly in an attempt to lighten his mood.:: Brock Dantara: Your word is more than good enough for me. So you really think that I can lead these people? I just don;t know. I'm just an engineer who got promoted awfully fast, the thought of giving a speech makes me a little nervous Torianna: ::Torianna looked deeply in those eyes of a blue grey and she smiled:: I know you can lead them, can you not see how they look up to you, respect you as a leader? Yes, you are an engineer and I am certain you are an exceptional one.... Brock Dantara: Yes. And I wish I was in the engine room of the Guardian. I may have been able to do something. I brought Concord home intact from some terrible battles. Torianna: but Captain Washington saw more in you than that and if you give it thought you will know that is true, for he would not have chosen you to be his Executive Officer if he saw only an exceptional engineer. Giving speeches is unnerving but once you get started, it becomes easier as the nervousness disappears. ::Her eyes would narrow some.:: It was not something in the engine room that kept the Guardian from coming home this time Brock and you know that. There was nothing you could have done, more than you did. Stop blaming yourself. Brock Dantara: ::Nods:: It's a bad habit of mine. OK. ::Takes a breath.:: How do I start this? I need to gather the crewmembers and I need to figure out what to say. I guess I'm going to have to wing it Torianna: May I give a bit of advice here? ::she smiled softly:: Brock Dantara: Please. I would welcome that. ::Tries to smile:: Torianna: Make a rough outline, even if it is just here. ::she reached over and lightly touched his forehead:: If you know the subjects you want to cover and have at least the beginning of the speech planned out, I would almost guarantee you that the rest will flow easily, from here. ::moving her hand from his forehead to his chest, over his heart:: Brock Dantara: Alright, then. ::Takes out a PADD:: I'll try. Can you help me gather the crew as I get my thoughts together? I have a basic Idea of what I want to say Torianna: ::Torianna nods:: Of course, I will gather the crew as you gather your thoughts. Do you wish to have speak with the crew here in the Lounge? ::She would not tell him but she was also going to make arrangements to have his speech recorded so it could be shown to the crewmembers in sickbay or those that missed it due to sleep. :: I will go first and find the quartermaster for I believe by now he may be busy assigning quarters to your crew. Brock Dantara: ::Nods:: alright. Please tell him that no quarters are to be assigned to me until or unless everyone has accommodations. I'll continue to bunk out here with whoever is left if necessary. Torianna: I believe there are enough quarters to be assigned to everyone, that is the impression I have been given but I will make certain to pass on your message. ::She rose then to leave:: Why don't you stay here with your padd. I will get others to help me gather the crew and with word of mouth, the news of your calling a meeting will spread quickly. Brock Dantara: Thank you, Tori. Again I can;t tell you how much your help and support means to me. You've done more for me than I deserve. ::reaches over and squeezes her hand:: Torianna: ::Shaking her head, her long dark hair sent to flying about her face:: You deserve all that I have done and much more, Brock. ::she felt a strange warmth deep within her stomach as he reached over and squeezed her hand. She quickly left to begin gathering the crew, she did not trust herself to remain there longer without saying things she probably should not say.:: I will return soon with your crew, Brock...good luck with your writing.

The crewmembers of the Guardian and the Tahoe gathered in the Lounge as Brock began to speak. One watching would see a change come over those gathered as Brock spoke his words of inspirations.

Torianna: ::Torianna had stood near the podium, listening to Brock's inspirational speech. Several times she had fought back tears as she listened to him, her eyes scanning those gathered to listen. Those that had lost loved ones, including husbands, wives, children, lovers, friends and their much respected Captain. Torianna felt their pain as she met with the gaze of many. She had chanted with them at the end, as their voices rang louder and louder within the Lounge. Her eyes met with those of the Captain of the Tahoe and she knew that she would be talking with her soon, she saw an emptiness there as well as the pain. She turned now to look at Brock with pride. Pride in the man for what he stood for, pride in his inner strength that showed now his leadership abilities. She knew this was dangerous ground for her as she allowed him to make his way into her life, as she felt the walls she had so carefully built begin to crumble, she wondered, for a brief moment if she should turn now and run but she knew it was already to late for that. She waited while others talked to him, she smiled softly when she saw him look her way.::
Brock Dantara: ::Brock finished saying what he had to say. he wondered if it was enough, or too much, did he say the right things? He stepped off the podium and saw Alex giving him a look of approval then he saw his chief TAC officer, Eric Jones. He hadn't had much time to speak with him and made a note to. He was by himself and while he listened he also had a lost look about him.. He continued his look and saw Capt. Kaz. He didn't know if he had any effect on her or not. She still looked hurt and lost. Who wouldn't be after what she had gone through. He thought about speaking to her but was unsure what the result would be. One thing he knew, she was an experienced Starship Captain and the fleet needed her, as did the Admiral. Then, Torianna appeared and was approaching him. He smiled as she came up to him and he was genuinely glad to see her.:: Did I do anything here? ::He asked:: Or should I just stick with stand up comedy?
Torianna: ::Seeing his smile as she walked toward him caused her heart to beat a little faster, his words as she came near made her chuckle softly as she responded in her soft voice:: You heard the chanting as it grew louder and louder, look around you and see that some are even now wearing smiles. Your speech was wonderful and inspirational. You cannot expect to take away their pain, pain of loss requires a mourning time but you, Brock, gave them back hope. You showed them that they are not alone and not the first in history to face what seems like undefeatable odds. You are a true leader, Brock and I, for one, am proud of you. I am glad that I was here to hear your words as they reached out and touched many. ::she reached out then, placing her hand to his forearm and giving it a squeeze as she looked into his eyes, her pride in him evident, but what else would he see in those eyes as he met her gaze?::
Brock Dantara: You really think I did all that? ::He replies, still looking at the personnel in the lounge:: I know I can't take away their pain. We all need our pain right now. including me. I want to tell Captain Kaz just how sick I am over her loss of crew. I can tell just by looking at her that she is blaming herself for all her dead. A Starship Captain is responsible for the lives of his/her crew I don't know how I'd be if I lost that many under my own command. I know this though, She is not the first Captain in history to lose crewmembers Christopher Pike lost crewmembers. James T. Kirk Lost crewmembers. Robert Wesley, Matthew Decker, Edward Jellico, Jean-Luc Picard, Katherine Janeway,.... I could go on and on. But they didn't give up. They never lost their hearts. They carried the weight of a lot of pain, and that is the burden of command. I also know for a fact that Admiral Malc blames himself as much as anyone for what happened. That we didn't get there sooner. I even feel some of the blame. I was at tactical firing on those impostors trying desperately to keep them off those pods. There were too many of them and I couldn't fire on all of them at once. We're at war, Torianna, and war has certain rules... Rule #1 is: Men and Women die. Rule#2 is: Doctors and Starship Captains can't change rule #1. This is taking it's toll on us all. But as that ancient Terran says, we must endure, if we do that we will be victorious. ::He sighed:: I don't know what else to do or say. except that I'm not going to lie down and die over this. I have to make everyone feel the same. I know we can win. These are a desperate people and they are hiding something. All we have to do is find out what that is. ::He looked down for a moment and took a deep breath to keep himself going and maintain his composure.::
Torianna: ::She listened intently as he spoke, her attention given to him and him alone in these moments. She waited for him to compose himself a little and then she would begin to speak.:: Brock, most of our species feel the emotion that has been named 'guilt'. Often when things go wrong we are quick to blame ourselves and to feel guilty for the results or lack of. I saw much in the eyes of Admiral Malc when I spoke with him briefly in the holding area and will speak with him again soon. As for him being guilty, that would only be possible if he had received the call for help and had not gone or had hesitated in making a decision to go to the aid of both the Guardian, as well as the Tahoe. I feel confident that he did not hesitate for more than a second or two and of course, it is evident that he answered both calls. As for you, did you sit back in your chair and drink a cup of java as the Impostor's were firing on the escape pods? Without you even responding, I know the answer to that so what did you do that deserves guilt? I think that Captain Kaz would gain much in talking to you, I know I have. I will also be talking to her, to see if there is anyway that I can help ease the heavy burden she is carrying about. The burden of command is indeed a heavy one and the loss of crewmembers is indeed a heavy weight to bear but as you said, we must not lose heart for if we do, then the Impostors have won not only the battle against the Guardian, the Tahoe and the other ships and crew we have lost but they have also then won the war. I will not allow that to happen either and I will stand beside you to help in any way to endure the pain of loss, to carry the weight of the burdens that seem so heavy at times....I will never surrender....::her voice raising a bit:: I will never surrender! ::Torianna gave him a smile, a hint of the twinkle in her eyes returning.::
Brock Dantara: You've done more than anyone could possibly do in this situation, Tori. You've been wonderful with everyone and I see the effect you have on people, myself included. You are carrying more of the burden than anyone should have to. You have truly risen to this occasion and shown perseverance and inspiration. You have exceeded your level of experience and I am grateful. A lot of people are grateful to you. Myself especially. When this war is over, I'm going to take you out for a meal you will never forget. I may even make it myself. I love to cook. ::Smiles:: ::As crewman walked by saying hello to both of them, Brock patted everyone on the back in support, hugging some of the crew he knew from Guardian.::
Torianna: ::Torianna once again listened intently to his words but his words this time had a different affect on her. As he spoke words of praise, a warm flush would rise to her cheeks, coloring them a soft shade of crimson. She had only given to others what she would want given to her in their position. She felt their loss, their pain in a way others would have no way of knowing for there was much no one aboard the Optimus knew of her.:: My burden is no heavier than the burdens of any involved in this war, Brock. I have spent years studying and yet at times, with all the knowledge I possess, I still feel helpless and lacking in ways to help others. I sincerely care for your crewmembers as well, as the crewmembers from the Tahoe and I will continue to help in any way I can to help ease the weight of their burdens. I am glad that I have been able to help you, Brock, that in itself means.......well, let's just say it means a lot to me. ::Torianna would smile and gracefully change the subject.:: Now, as for your kind offer of a meal that I will never forget, I am going to hold you to that promise. ::Her eyes twinkling as she looked deep within his eyes:: I do hope you decide to cook it yourself for what better meal could a woman ask for then one made just for her. ::She smiled as she watched members of the crew walk by, stopping to say hello to both of them. Her smile warm as she watched him interact with them, at times with a pat on the back, others given a warm hug. She knew that this was a very special man that stood before her and he definitely had her full interest.::
Brock Dantara: ::Smiles again:: I expect you to hold me to that. It's the very least I can do, and hardly enough for everything you are doing. I think that by the time all this is over i will owe you a great deal more than just a meal. I look forward to learning more about you, and where you are from. I know that you are not a Terran. That much is certain. You have an uncanny way of giving people strength and letting them draw from you. When I look in your eyes you know what I see? A federation still prospering in the future, I see people like you and I, and many here partaking our experiences of these times to a new generation of Starfleet officers. Within you I see hope, and I see kindness and generosity. I see all the good of all the species of the Federation. What makes us strong and persevere. When I look at you, I see a gleaming beacon of hope breaking through the darkness and bringing starlight back to us all. I don't know if I could have gotten up there and done that if not for you. I hate being so corny but this is just what's coming out of me and I can't make it stop. You may have to slap me and snap me out of it. ::He grins::
Torianna: ::Her smile grew as the blush that colored her cheeks deepened. Her voice held a soft melodic tone as she spoke:: You owe me nothing, for you asked for nothing. I give what I give freely and without thought of repayment of any kind. I love what I do and I love being able to help others. As far as you looking forward to learning more about me, I can say the same for myself for I find myself wanting to learn everything about you. I know much already but I want to know everything. ::She looked down for a moment as her face grew warm, the blush deepening even more.:: It is true, I am not a Terran. Your compliments mean much to me and I am grateful you see me in such a wonderful light but I am simply me, I give my best in all I do, I can do not more than that. What a wonderful thing for you to see within my eyes for I see the same thing, a new generation of Starfleet officers, a good deal of our future lies right here aboard this ship, as well as the many other ships in the fleet. Brock, you are the one that came up with the idea for the speech and had I not been here, you would have gotten up just the same. You have an inner strength that I can feel and see....::After realizing what she had said, she paused for a second before correcting her words, hopefully before he gave them much thought.:: ummmmm, I mean that I can sense it. Now, as for you being corny, I have not heard one thing come forth over your lips that I would deem as corny and as for slapping you to snap you out of it, that will never ever happen. ::Her smile mirrored his grin as she looked into his eyes, her cheeks still warm and almost glowing with color.::
Brock Dantara: ::Brock considered her words for a moment and heard the wisdom in them:: The fact that you do what you do, Torianna because you wish to, and not because it is simply what is asked of you, That embodies everything that is good and great about all the peoples of the Federation. It is why we deserve to prevail and survive. And you are right. The future is now, everything that we do, everything decision the Admiral makes and what this ship does, decides the fate of what is to come. Millions of unborn children depend upon what we do here now. What a tremendous burden we all have to carry with us right now. Of all the ordeals I have faced, all the terrible battles I have been in, all the times I wondered if my ship was going to make it home. Never have I been so frightened as I am now. Never have I had to carry such weight. A wise man once said a long time ago, that: "heroes are just frightened men and women who make bad decisions at good moments" Not that I deserve to be called a hero, but I find myself praying to my Gods for some of those good moments. I think I, and all of us are going to need a few of those. ::He sighed:: Have you heard anything from sickbay? I'm going to have to get up there soon and check in on Ryza. I'm very worried about her. I'm worried about us all. And I'm going to have to find some way to snap Captain Kaz out of this funk she's in. I know she doesn't want to, but what we all want doesn't matter right now all that matters is what we must do. For all of our sakes.

Brock Dantara: ::There was still a couple hours until Brock had to go to the briefing with the Admiral and the Sr Officers. Brock had been thinking about how nice it would be to get a breath of air. Most of the crew were getting situated in temporary quarters and he needed to relax. He had been allowed to book some holodeck time and decided to take advantage of it. He began to head out of the lounge. As he did, he saw Torianna taking a sit down break. he smiled and approached her:: Torianna: ::Torianna saw an empty seat and decided to sit for just a moment or two. Exhaustion was beginning to creep up on her so she sat to rest, hoping she would not fall asleep right there in the Lounge.:: Your speech was wonderful Brock. ::said softly as she watched him approach her:: Would you like to join me for a brief break? Brock Dantara: ::He smiles to her.:: Actually I was going to ask the same of you! I was going to hit the holodeck for an hour or so. I thought a brief change of scenery would do dome good. I think it would do both of us some good. clear our heads, maybe. Join me, Will you? ::Once again his boyish smile emerged. He felt like a cadet again for a moment remembering when his friend Barry would try to teach him how to talk to Earth women:: Torianna: ::Her eyes lit up as she heard him, she smiled back and nodded:: That sounds very refreshing and it would be my pleasure to join you for a change of scenery. ::Seeing his boyish grin caused her smile to grow as she stood up.:: My head could use some clearing and I would very much like to spend some time with you. ::a soft blush rose to color her cheeks:: Brock Dantara: Well, then, ::Extends his arm to her:: shall we go? And before we do, I must warn you, I hope you are not afraid of heights. ::He begins to lead her to the turbolift:: Torianna: ::After only a few brief seconds hesitation, she placed her hand to his arm and smiled as she took a step closer:: I am ready, lead the way Lt. Commander. ::she smiled brightly as she answered:: No, I have no fear of heights. ::She wondered what he had planned but then thought that anything he wanted to do would be fine with her:: Brock Dantara: ::They walked down the short hallway and got into the turbolift, the doors hissed closed behind them.:: This is a program I like to use whenever I'm homesick. I had an enhanced version of the program on the Guardian, but that, of course is lost. I like to bring a piece of home with me whenever I can. Next time we do this, I'd like to see your home and learn about your people. But since this was my idea, I get to go first. ::Grins:: ::They exit the turbolift and head for holodeck one where Brock punches in a program protocol:: "Program complete" ::the computer spoke:: "enter when ready". Torianna: ::Torianna allowed her arm to entwine a bit with his as they walked to the turbolift, she smiled up to him as the doors closed:: What a wonderful idea, to bring a piece of home with you. I look forward to sharing it with you, Brock. ::Her words spoken in her soft tone.:: I do not have a program that brings a bit of home with me. ::She watches as Brock punches in the programs and smiles as the computer stated the Program was complete and they could enter when ready. She gave a gentle squeeze to his arm:: Brock Dantara: ::The doors slid open and they entered, walking out onto a huge terrace and all around them were clouds, fluffy and white. there was a wonderful morning breeze wafting across their faces as the began to walk out over the immense terrace. Not far away were magnificent buildings. Towers of crystalline spiraling latticework gorgeous statues of various types in formation around the great buildings. Flags of all the worlds of the Federations flowing overhead in a proud line. He looked around the cityscape, morning wind blowing through his hair, and took in a deep breath of the fresh air, then turned to Torianna:: Welcome to Stratos. Capital city of Ardana. My home planet. this is the place I come to when I'm lonely, when I'm scared, or just unsure of what to do sometimes. The enhanced program I had on Guardian had interactive people. this one is limited, but it does the trick in a pinch. Torianna: ::As the doors slid open and the entered, her eyes grew wide in awe at the beautiful sight that laid before her. She breathed in deeply of the fresh air as the morning breeze lifted and tousled her long hair. The clouds so fluffy and so very white. The terrace was larger than any she had ever before seen and as she gazed over the magnificent buildings she gasped softly:: Brock, the architecture is absolutely exquisite....the towers, the lattice work and look at those gorgeous statues. ::Her eyes scanned over the city, her eyes opened wide in wonder. She then looked back to him, her eyes twinkling.:: Brock, it is breathtakingly beautiful. I can understand why you would want to come here all the time but especially when you are feeling lonely, frightened or unsure of how to handle things. Is this the city you grew up in? Brock Dantara: Yes. This is where we live, but I spent a lot of time on the surface. My family owns and manages their own Zenite mining company. I was the surface manager before I left to join Starfleet. At one time we Troglytes were slaves in the mines and were not even allowed on Stratos. All of that changed back in 2269 from a visit by a federation Starship called Enterprise. Back then, there were a group of Troglyte freedom fighters known as "the Disruptors". They attacked Stratos and demanded rights for our people. The Enterprise came here to pick up a Zenite consignment to take to Merak II to fight a plague. Capt James Kirk found himself in the middle of some call a "Class struggle". Capt. Kirk was unable to obtain the Zenite because of the disruptors, and so, he negotiated on our behalf. Also, the high Governor's daughter took a fancy to the ships first officer. Kirk found a way to make peace and get his Zenite and in doing so opened the doors of freedom for our people. The Governor's daughter, Droxine, became one of our biggest advocates. Torianna: ::Torianna looked to him, her head canted gently as she listened to him tell a little about himself and his family, then as he went on to tell about his people, giving her a brief history. Torianna was truly interested in what he was saying as she found him fascinating. So many interesting facets to the man that stood here with her. She reached up and brushed a strand of hair from in front of his eyes, blown there by the morning breeze and she smiled:: I find the history of your people fascinating, Brock and your city is enchanting as the flags wave in all their glory. I am so happy that you chose to share this with me and I look forward to learning more still. ::She sensed a peace within him now as they stood on the terrace and she wondered how he would take when finally she told him about her history, about the reasons why for so very long she has fought to keep from allowing any man close to her. Again, she wondered what it was about this man that had her so captivated. This she wondered as she gazed into his beautiful blue grey eyes:: Brock Dantara: ::Brock looks into Torianna's eyes. They sparked diamondesque in the Ardanan sunlight. He brushed her own hair out of her face in return. He watches how her lips had a glow about them and found himself thinking about kissing her, but then quickly dismissed that thought thinking it not appropriate.:: Let me show you my favorite part of the city. ::He took her hand and they walked through to city until they came to a small, grassy clearing. They came upon a golden statue of an old Constitution class Starship, the registry on the nacelles: NCC-1701. beneath the statue was a large plaque with a quote etched into it:: This quote is something that the first officer of the Enterprise said to Droxine that moved her to change her ways and fight for Troglyte rights. ::They both looked at the plaque and read the inscription together:: "To restrict a segment of the population to such hardship is unheard of in an evolved culture" I used to come here every day as a boy, passing this way and I would stare at this statue. I finally decided to join Starfleet out of gratitude for the crew of that ship did for us back then. If I could be only half the leader James Kirk was, Then maybe I could make a difference somehow. When I was a young boy, I used to come out here, and there was an elderly man who was always here. He used to tell me a story of how, when he was a boy he would play out on this very terrace as I did. Every night he would see Droxine come out onto the terrace and look out into the stars, waiting for the Enterprise's First Officer to someday return. She never married. Never gave up her vigil for him. But he never came back. That man still lives to this day and his "Star Trek" has not yet ended. ::He turned and smiled to her, unconsciously taking her hand and holding it.::
Torianna: ::Torianna felt a warmth building within as his eyes held hers. She watched his hand as it moved upwards to brush a strand of her long hair away from her face as his gaze move to her lips. She felt a warm shiver as it raced up and down her spine as she wondered what it would be like to have his lips meet hers. She quickly pushed that thought aside, but found it creeping back until his voice broke the trance she was in. She smiled hearing that he wished to share with her his favorite part of the city and her smile grew as he took her hand and they began to walk through the city. She glanced down at their hands, now entwined, and was amazed at how perfect their hands, so different in size fit together as if made for each other. Her gaze moved back and forth as they walked through the beautiful city that had been his home. She found herself wondering about the young boy that he was when he had freely roamed the city and smiled as they came to a small grassy clearing, a soft gasp passed over her lips as her eyes came to rest on a beautiful golden statue of an old Constitution class Starship and she saw the registry on the nacelles, her eyes admiring the statue as she heard him begin to speak and she turned so her eyes met with his. As he told her of the plaque, both of their eyes moved to it and without thought or planning, they both read the inscription out loud together.:: I can understand how this statue would inspire a young boy to join Starfleet and I can also understand the gratitude you would feel for the crew of that ship and for what they did for your people. Brock, you are more than half the leader that James Kirk was and you have already made a difference in many lives. ::She paused for a moment as she had been tempted to add, that he had also made a difference in her life...she continued:: The story the elderly man told you is one of the beauty of love but also of the sadness of love unfulfilled. I can understand a woman loving a man so deeply that she would never give up on him and hold vigil awaiting his return. ::she looked into his eyes again as he turned and she saw much within their depths. Her head then canted slightly again:: The man still lives to this day? ::she felt his hand as it slipped into hers and it felt so right as they stood there gazing into each other's eyes:: Brock Dantara: ::Looks into her eyes still:: Yes, Tori. He's ambassador Spock now. He was a Commander at the time he visited Ardana. Last I heard he had gone to Romulus to try and help establish social change there. What he did for us, he is now trying do for others. His Father before him was an Ambassador as well. what a dynamic man. His writings are required reading at the academy. ::Looks down for a moment:: there's only one thing that makes me sad when I think about our history, Tori. I feel like I've lost a part of it. Torianna: ::Her eyes opened wide as she listened to him. She had heard of the great Ambassador Spock and had read some of his writings herself. She then watches as Brock breaks their gaze and looks down. She senses the sadness within him even before she heard it in his voice. Her voice soft as she talks to him, unconsciously squeezing his hand as he held hers:: What is the part that you feel that you have lost, Brock? ::she grew silent as she awaited his response:: Brock Dantara: ::Sighs:: well, you see, Tori, It was once believed that the Troglytes were a less intelligent race than the Stratos city dwellers. It turned out that his was not the case. It was the Zenite. Zenite is a mineral that is highly effective in combating plant and botanical diseases. It is indigenous to Ardana. The CMO of the Enterprise discovered that Zenite in its raw form, emits a colorless, odorless gas that affects the synaptic functions of the brain. It impairs judgment and generally makes on more aggressive. Dr Leonard McCoy discovered that a simple filter mask was all that was needed to shield us form the gas. The aristocratic rulers of Ardana were reluctant to accept this but finally agreed. Once these filters were in use, the Troglytes redoubled their efforts to gain their rights and freedom. There are some who believe that our government was aware of this problem and used it to their advantage to continue to subjugate and exploit my people. I had, In my possession, one of the original filter masks, designed by Dr McCoy and manufactured the ship's Chief Engineer, Montgomery Scott, who later became my friend. I lost that when the Guardian went down. I should have never taken that with me. I should have left it at home. It was not only priceless, but a precious piece of my people's history. My Father warned me not to take that with me I also lost my sensei's 19th century Katana. I'm more heart broken over those things than I am of losing my wife. ::He stroked her arm a little:: Torianna: ::Torianna heard his sigh and sensed what he was about to tell her was painful for him. She listened intently as he spoke, truly interested in the history of his people which she knew was so important to him. As he told of the Troglytes and the affect the Zenite had on them, her eyes showed empathy for his people. She listened as he spoke of the crew members of the Enterprise and sensed the emotions that evoked within him. A soft gasp passed over her lips as he told of the belief that possibly their government was aware of the problem but used it to their advantage to exploit the Troglytes. Then as he spoke of the original filter mask and his sensei's 19th century Katana, she felt his pain as if it were her own. She was sensitive to this man, the empathic telepathy she had fought to suppress for so long, linked her to him in a way she had never been linked to another. But she also sensed something else, something she could not quite put her finger on. She shook her head trying to clear her thoughts for a moment as she looked into his eyes:: I have listened to the story of your people, Brock and their fight to gain their rights and freedom. The part about the government and their possibly taken advantage of a problem known to them in the mining of the Zenite is a sad one but not so uncommon I fear. There have been many corrupt governments that have taken advantage of opportunities that have exploited the very people they were supposed to protect. As for the original filter mask and the 19th century Katana that had once belonged to your sensei, I share in your heart break over their loss, although I must say I am surprised that losing such items, even though priceless and precious pieces of your people's history, would hurt more deeply than the loss of your wife. That in itself, tells me much. ::She then looked to his hand as he stroked her arm gently, her eyes then moving back up to meet with his and she smiled softly:: Brock Dantara: ::He returned her gaze and smiled.:: And just what does it tell you? I'm wondering. I thought perhaps I was speaking figuratively when I said that, but right now I'm not quite sure. I wasn't saying that to be cruel or anything, but I haven't thought about her that much since I told you about her. After she left, I redecorated my quarters with all of my own things and I remember how proud I was to have that mask. I had been planning on having Captain Washington stop by so that I could show it off to him. Being a medical Doctor, I'm sure he would have loved to have seen it. I'm not a materialistic person. What I do possess usually are things that have deep meaning to me. Those two things, among others are treasures. Not just useless material things, or jewelry. When I got engaged to Shian, I gave her a ring that my mother gave me it was nothing fancy, but it had been in our family for many generations. I feel like I've wasted it. Right now it's probably packed away in a box on New France somewhere. I'll never see that ring again. I'm sorry I gave it to someone who doesn't deserve or appreciate it. ::He looks at the clouds once again, as they always had a claming effect on him.:: Torianna: ::His smile seemed to reach within her somehow, warming her deep inside. She thought of his hand holding hers, the gentle caress of his hand on her arm and she shook her head, sending her long hair flying as she cleared her mind to respond to him.:: It tells me that there was something missing in the relationship, I am not insinuating that you did not love each other but there was something missing nonetheless. I did not sense anything cruel in your words, simply acceptance. Acceptance in the relationship coming to an end and knowing that there was nothing more you could do. When one has done all they possibly could, then lived through the pain of breaking up, there is a healing process that takes place, acceptance being one of the last steps. I do not think of you as a materialistic person because you had things that were precious to you. ::She paused here, again getting a strange feeling that somehow these items were not gone at all but how could that be? She then listened to the story of the ring and smiled softly.:: Brock, a ring does not need to be fancy to be precious and as an engagement ring, I am certain it was a perfect sentiment having been in your family for so long. I cannot say where the ring might be now but perhaps one day you will find it back in your family where it belongs. ::Torianna then brought her free hand upwards and brushed it gently across his cheek.:: I am sorry she hurt you. Any woman that would do so, in the way she did, is indeed not deserving of the love and attentions you gave to her. I must say though that I do hope you do not allow what she did to make you bitter inside, not all women are the same. ::She sensed his mood and watched as he looked up at the clouds, feeling the calming effect they had on him, her eyes also looked upwards and they stood there together, looking at the clouds.::
Brock Dantara: ::He watched Torianna's raven hair blow in the morning breeze. He stroked her hair, then scratched her back:: Not all women are the same you say? For some reason I think I know that now, more than ever. When I looked out into the night sky over Stratos, I felt that something was beckoning to me, or someone. I knew that I would find my answers in the stars. At one time I thought that was Lt Col Trony "Tase" Tasera. Then I thought It was Shian. Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough yet, or looked in the wrong places. I've discovered recently that people my lie, But the stars can't. ::Turns and gazes again into her eyes, that sparkled like twin Galaxies:: Torianna: ::She saw him watching her, his gaze intent at moment's and then almost seemed far away as he so gently stroked her hair. She smiled when she felt him begin to scratch her back with a gentle touch. She listened to him but sensed what he was feeling as well. Then she responded, ever so softly.:: You should listen to your heart and follow, even if only for a short distance, that which beckons to you. Answers are found in many places, Brock and those places are different for most individuals. I too have answered a calling the stars made to me but it has until now only led me to a fine career. It is a sad fact that people lie and those lies leave deep wounds but even the deepest wound heals in time. Although the relationship with those two women did not work out, I am certain if you look close enough, you will find something positive that you took from each relationship, even if it is simply a trait or a habit that you now know drives you mad but isn't that knowledge a positive thing? I agree with you, that although people can and do lie, the stars cannot. ::She smiled softly as their eyes met and held a gaze:: Brock Dantara: ::They had turned towards one another. Her lips had a glow under the morning Ardanan Sun. He thought in wonder how she seemed to radiate warmth from her, like an aura of emotion. He slowly leaned forward and kissed her, feeling a warmth and a cacophony of deep feelings he never knew he possessed. He hoped he would not get his face slapped for this, but for some reason couldn't stop himself.:: Torianna: ::Standing there, facing each other as they were, she sensed that soon she would have a decision to make. Would she allow the barriers so painstakingly erected to be torn down and destroyed completely or would she open up to him, tell him of the secrets few alive knew, of her history and why she had remained alone until now? She was drawn to him in a way she had never been to another and as she watched him slowly lean forward, her inner battle ended for she knew she would not push this man away, this man that had broken down the barriers without even trying but she knew that soon she would have to tell him more about her, for was that not the fair and right thing to do, even if the knowledge caused her to lose him. As their lips met for the very first time, he captivated her with emotion unbridled at last and the kiss was a sweet sharing of deep emotion that would leave them both a bit breathless.::

Brock Dantara: ::When the kiss finally broke, He pulled back and brushed her hair aside, then held the side of her face:: I.......I'm sorry. I hope you don't think me too forward by doing that. But I have to admit I thought about doing that since the first time I laid eyes on you. ::He pauses and takes a breath. As he does, his combadge goes off. It is the voice of Commander Ramirez.:: "Commander Dantara, the Admiral wants you on the bridge immediately"::He hits his combadge:: Dantara here. On my way. ::He looks at her and briefly kisses her again.:: This war is cramping my style. ::Laughs:: I have to go. We'll pick this up later. Is that alright? Torianna: ::Torianna's eyes were filled with unleashed emotion as the kiss was broken. She looked to him, ready to tell him so much as he brushed her hair aside and held the side of her face. She was about to tell him that he should have any regrets about the kiss for she didn't. Her eyes opening a bit wider as his next words surprised her, for she had not sensed his attraction to her at their first meeting or had she? She wondered what more he would say as he paused, taking a breath, when his comm badge channel opened and Commander Ramirez's voice rang out clearly informing Brock that the Admiral wants him on the bridge immediately. She knew he would go and she understood for he was a Starfleet officer. He took her by surprise this time as he kissed her briefly and she nodded, then chuckled softly as she heard his words:: Yes, Brock, I would want it no other way and find myself looking forward to picking this up later. If you do not mind, I think I will remain here for a few more moments. ::Her smile was bright, lighting up her entire face as it added a special sparkle within her eyes:: Go, it is not wise to keep the Admiral waiting. Brock Dantara: Of course. Stay and enjoy the program. I'm glad you like it so much. Perhaps someday, when all this pandemonium is over I will show you the real thing. This program doesn't do Stratos justice. ::Hugs her and begins to head out:: "Computer, Arch" :: he turns back once more upon exiting.:: Please look in on Dr Nyin and Kay, Would you? ::He hurries out, she is right in not keeping Admiral Malc waiting::

Brock Dantara: ::Brock had left the Admiral's office and met up with Torianna down in the lounge area once again. He was glad to see that much of the excitement died down in the halls as the crew were getting situated. He had enough time to grab a quick lunch before returning to duty. He smile as she approached and he greeted her::
Torianna: ::Torianna had been unable to locate Dr. Jackson to speak to her regarding Kay. She had looked in on the twins and found them as well as Dr. Thrann sound asleep, an idea which was extremely appealing to her at this moment but there was something else she needed to take care of before she slept and that was to get something to eat. She had eaten nothing since the grilled chicken salad she had eaten with Brock and she could not even remember how long ago that was. She left sickbay, after leaving word with the nurses that she would return to speak with Dr. Jackson and made her way to the Lounge in hopes of getting something to eat and then possibly getting a little rest. She was surprised, although pleasantly, to see Brock seated in the Lounge as she entered and she made her way over to him, a warm smile on her face.:: Hello, Lt. Commander, it is a pleasant surprise to find you here, I do hope your meeting with the Admiral went well.
Brock Dantara: It went fine. ::He smiled, he might discuss that another time:: I was hoping I'd have a chance to catch you before duty shift. I was about to grab a quick bite myself. Join me? We can chat for a few minutes.
Torianna: ::Torianna welcomed his company and nodded:: I would like that. Would you like me to get the food this time, that is if you know what you would like? ::She smiled softly, her eyes twinkling as she looked to him. She remembered their last moments together on the holodeck and a soft heated flush rose to color her cheeks.:: You must be exhausted as well and I do not mind playing waitress this time.
Brock Dantara: Sure, that would be fine. Just get me Cheeseburger and fries, and a chocolate protein shake. I'll just grab that table over there.::Points to the table by the wall. Smiles and heads to the table, as she heads for the replicator::
Torianna: ::She walked to the replicator, entering the order for a cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate protein shake. She placed it on a tray before entering her order for spinach quiche, another of her favorites from her time spent at the Academy on Earth. Along with the quiche, she entered an order for a tall glass of ice cold water with lemon and placed both to the tray, then picking up utensils and napkins, she made her way to the table near the wall, a warm smile on her face as she neared the table and placed the tray down on it.::
Brock Dantara: ::he took his food off the tray, putting it on the table in front of him, then putting the trays off to the side. He began to decorate his cheeseburger with the accompanying lettuce, tomatoes and onions and a good bit of mayo. Then squirted out a nice glob of ketchup for the fries.:: A bit of nostalgia ::He said smiling.:: I used to get this all the time at the snack bar in the main academy complex. I'm sure you've been in there. ::He chuckled:: I got into a fight in the lounge there once. ::He took a bite of his burger, not realizing how hungry he actually was.:: Did you know that I was the only cadet ever to turn down Red Squad? That's kind of what that fight was about. ::He smiled boyishly as he watched her eat::
Torianna: ::She watched him fix the cheeseburger and her nose wrinkled slightly. A soft sounding chuckle as he then made a pile of ketchup on his plate near the fries.:: Nostalgia is a good thing, fond memories even serve to lower one's heart rate, giving the heart muscle a rest, although I am not certain the fat content in that cheeseburger and fries does one's cholesterol levels any good. ::She smiled at him as she then took a small forkful of the quiche to her lips.:: I am not certain I ever visited the snack bar but I have watched others eat as you are. ::Her head tilted to the side slightly as she heard his words of fighting and The Red Squad.:: Why would anyone wish to fight you for turning down The Red Squad and what was the reason behind you turning it down? I am interested in hearing the tale and no, I had no idea that you were the only cadet to turn down such an honor.
Brock Dantara: Well, ::He continued as he ate:: Sure it's an honor and there's nothing wrong with being recognized for outstanding accomplishments. But, these kids had an attitude about them... They went around acting like they were better than everybody else, throwing it verbally in the other Cadet's faces that they were superior. Picking on the freshman, I mean hazing is one thing but these people were just mean. Knowing what you now about my heritage, I think you can guess that kind of behavior didn't go over well with me. ::Laughs:: So I basically told them what they could do with their squadron and their attitudes. Instead I chose the Hathaway project. The old USS Hathaway, a Constellation Class ship was going to be junked. They decided instead to make it an academy class project to rebuild that ship. I rebuilt that engine room from the ground up and we spent two years on that ship. With the new warp core I installed, she ran better and faster than she ever did. That old girl saved our lives more than once with the misadventures we got ourselves into. And that's what that fight was about. I ran into some of them at a Starbase. They sat there, laughing about the Hathaway, calling it a "Useless old piece of sh*t" and bragging about their new Defiant class ship. I didn't start anything over that. It wasn't until that same cadet I had known, who was then the Red Squad captain, said that I felt he crossed the line. He went on to say that "the engine on the Hathaway was built by a Troglyte. A "stupid cave man". Well that did it for me. And on my world that is a powerful insult. So when I got up and approached the Red Squad Captain, he began to warn me about his advanced Marine combat training. I thanked him for the warning and proceeded to beat the crap out of him. ::Sits back smirking, remembering the incident::
Torianna: ::She had listened with interest, hearing every word and understanding completely why he had turned down the honor of becoming a member of The Red Squad.:: It is very clear to me why you turned down the honor, not only because of what I now know of your heritage but also because of the man you are which of course has to do with your heritage but is also much more. ::Her smile warm, her facial features depicting pride as well.:: I heard tell of the Hathaway Project, it seems that it is one that will go down in history. ::She chuckled then as she recalled hearing the story Brock had just told as well, of course without all the details.:: It also appears that I heard of you and the fight you have now described to me. I am proud to meet the legend that beat the crap out of the arrogant Red Squad Captain. It seems that Academy stories are told over and over, at least the ones worth telling. As far as the name calling, that is totally uncalled for and if I had heard that arrogant cadet speak that way of you, I would have beat the crap out of him, myself. ::She smiled as a heated flush rose once again to her cheeks::
Brock Dantara: ::He nodded:: There were a lot of people there that felt the same way. They had to take me to the brig for technically attacking a Sr officer, but the Jag at the station reviewed the case and was very understanding of the cultural consequences of what he said to me. My name was cleared and That Cadet Captain was given a mark against his record and a reprimand. As far as being a legend? Me? I doubt that. And I had no idea anyone else even knew about the Hathaway project. I was very fortunate to be a part of that and I wouldn't trade those days for anything. And I'll tell you this. If any of those Red Squad cadets were on the Hathaway with us when we got yanked out of warp by an Orion tractor beam, they'd have been off soiling themselves. ::Laughs:: Oops :He said:: Sorry to use such a reference during lunch! ::He put his hand over his mouth::
Torianna: ::Once again, Torianna had listened intently, showing a sincere interest in the tale he told of his days as a cadet. She wanted to know everything about him and was glad for this opportunity to learn a little more.:: Well, believe it or not, your tale has been passed on. ::Another bite of the spinach quiche did she bring to her mouth, just beginning to chew it when he told of the Orion tractor beam and what would have happened had the other Red Squad members had they been there. Her laughter joined his as she brings a hand up to cover her mouth as she laughed, having not finished chewing and swallowing the quiche:: It is alright, Lt. Commander, I have indeed heard much worse.
Brock Dantara: ::He smiled at her, letting her finish her food.:: Actually, I love telling stories about the old days but I'm afraid I've been using it to delay talking about something else, Tori. ::He continued:: I.....Want to apologize for what happened on the holodeck. I was having a wonderful time, and, I guess I just got carried away a little. I hope you didn't think that too forward of me. Some customs consider that to be an insult, not knowing anything about yours or your people, I don't know. I...Hope that you weren't offended in any way by what I did.::He drank his shake as we awaited her reply, realizing that he was beginning to fall over his words.::
Torianna: ::She finished her quiche or at least what she would eat of it and set her fork aside. She watched him intently as he spoke, his body language told much of his being a bit uncomfortable, as did the fact that he was almost falling over his own words. She smiled a bit nervously when he mentioned not knowing much about her people and knew the time was coming when she would have to tell him about herself. She gazed into his eyes and tried to get a feeling for how he would react when she told him of her heritage. Her voice soft as she spoke.:: I very much enjoy listening to the stories you tell, for they tell me more about you. I too had a wonderful time on the holodeck and feel very special that you shared Stratos with me, as well as the history of your people but most of all, I enjoyed hearing of the young boy you once were. As for what happened between us, if you feel that it was just being carried away, just a spontaneous reaction of the moment, then I accept your apology. If there was more to it, then no apology is necessary, Lt. Commander. As for me being offended, I was not offended in anyway but rather, I must admit that I very much enjoyed my very first kiss. ::A soft blush colored her cheeks as she looked down for a moment.::
Brock Dantara: No,...Tori it wasn't like that at all. It was much more than that. And that was the quantum torpedo of first kisses. I wanted to do that. I wanted to so it from the moment I saw you... ::He took a breath:: I guess.... Maybe I feel guilty. Here we are in a war zone, I look at what's happened to Capt. Kaz and some of the others and here I am.....having a wonderful time getting to know you. I feel like I'd like to someday look back at this time with you and recite the old Terran classic from Dickens: "It was the best of times...It was the worst of times". Tori, I think you're a wonderful, warm hearted woman who permeates my thoughts more with each passing hour. I guess I'm just afraid....All I can offer you is a guy on the rebound. It doesn't seem fair to someone like you. I care about you and I respect you as a person.::He hopes he was making sense. He felt like an awkward schoolboy around this woman for some reason.::
Torianna: ::Her brows raised slightly, the blush remaining on her cheeks as she listened to him:: You wanted to kiss me from the first moment you saw me? ::That question asked even before she would continue to respond to the remainder of his words.:: I am very happy to hear that our first kiss had the same affect on you that it did on me and that it was much more than just being carried away in the moment. As for feeling guilty, I understand exactly how you are feeling. I find myself feeling quilt as well but are we not doing all we can do? When was the last time you slept or even before this meal, when was the last time you ate anything substantial? No, I know before even asking this that you indeed feel guilty about those that lost their lives but I want you to think about that for a few moments and after you have, tell me what you could have possibly done to change what happened. We are indeed in the middle of a war zone and I too see what has happened to Captain Kaz as well as several others and I will do everything within my power to help them cope for now, then help them find a way to heal and go on. I do not expect them, any of them to forget because none of us will. I will now ask you, if you and I were not to spend a little time getting to know each other, would that better help those around us or if we continue and find happiness with each other, will that not even give others that see that happiness, that feel the radiant warmth of our smiles, hope for the future? ::She paused for a moment, her chest rising and falling as she took a deep breath before continuing.:: I have never heard of this old Terran classic from Dickens that you speak of but would one day like to hear the rest, it sounds like an interesting philosophy. ::Torianna then reached across the table and placed her hand on top of his, squeezing it gently:: We share much already for I feel that you are a wonderful, warm-hearted, sensitive man and you have also found your way into my thoughts more and more with each hour that passes. I am afraid as well but it has nothing to do with what you have to offer. If you feel desperate for companionship or that you are trying to fill a void left by your ex-wife then yes, I would say you are still on the rebound but if you have come to terms with the fact that the relationship was not to be, for whatever reasons and you have truly accepted that, then you are ready to move forward. As for it being fair to me, would it be fair for you to just turn and walk away, knowing that we already share feelings. Do we not deserve at least a chance to see where they take us? ::Torianna grew quiet again, her eyes looking into his as she once again squeezed his hand.::
Brock Dantara: ::he squeezed her hand back.:: Yes, I do think we deserve a chance to see where this will lead us. I guess I just want to be sure about all the other stuff. But some people feel that way for years after a relationship ends. And yes, I wanted to kiss you the minute I first saw you. Your eyes, and your lips glowed like anomalies on a black starboard. I felt lightheaded, almost drunk when I first saw you. And I think that maybe what I really felt guilty about was the fact that I was glad Shian was gone when I saw you. ::He squeezes her hand again and looks into her eyes:: And you want to know something? ::He asked with an annoyed look:: You have a terrible habit of confusing me with things that make sense.::Laughs:: And we are running out of time before duty shift.
Torianna: ::She smiled as she felt him squeeze her hand in return:: You just want to be sure about all what other stuff, Brock and what do you mean when you say that some people feel that way for years after a relationship ends? ::Her head tilted slightly to the side, a strand of hair falling across her face, which she brushed aside.:: Brock, you flatter me greatly with your words as you speak of the affect I had on you when we first met but I must admit to having feelings at that very moment as well and will speak of those one day soon when we do not have to both return to duty. As for feeling guilty about being glad that Shian was gone when you saw me, I want you to think about that for a moment. Do you think that if you were still with Shian, I would have had the same affect on you? I sense a deep, undying loyalty within you, Brock and I believe I know the answer to that question already. ::Her face aglow as she felt yet another squeeze of her hand, then her brows raised as she heard his next question and saw the annoyed look upon his face.:: Confusing you with things that make sense? If they make sense, how can you find them confusing? ::She relaxed a little as heard his laugh, then waited for his response.::
Brock Dantara: ::Smiles:: That's a Terran joke, Tori. Sorry. I was just juxtaposing humor trying to say that you have a way of making thing seem so clear and less cloudy. And of course if I were still with Shian things would be different. I would certainly not be unfaithful to her. I was being light hearted with that as well. My Father always lectured me on becoming to set in Terran ways. That it would be my undoing. ::Laughs:: But there is a large Terran influence as it is on Ardana. What I'm trying to say, Tori is, I'm glad I met you. If anything good's come of this war, it's you. Like a modern Florence Nightingale tirelessly helping people in their darkest hour. And I feel privileged to be able to know you. Corny as that may sound. I'm glad you're in my life now.
Torianna: ::Torianna listened and knew that indeed he was being light-hearted but that there was also much truth in his words. She would not make speak the words that would point that out to him though. She knew he would not be unfaithful to a partner, no matter who she was. She smiled then, her smile reflected in her eyes.:: I am glad I met you too, Brock. You are like a bright star in an otherwise dark sky. I watched the eyes of the crewmembers of not only the Guardian and the Tahoe but of the Optimus as well when they listened to your inspirational speech. You are a natural born leader and I feel very privileged to have met you . I have wanted to help others since I was a very young girl and it warms me when I can bring even a tiny ray of sunshine to those who feel engulfed in darkness. I thank you for your kind words. ::She squeezed his hand a bit tighter.:: As for you sounding corny, how could I think such a thing when I too feel privileged to know you and are also glad to have you in my life.
Brock Dantara: ::He smiled back to her, as he stacked the dishes and the tray for them.:: I think we have more things to discuss, Tori. I was wondering, next off duty shift we have together do you think you could handle another of my holodeck programs? This one is very, very different from Stratos, though. I think you might like it. ::Continues to smile::
Torianna: ::She returned his smile as she nodded:: I do agree we have many more things to discuss, Brock and yes, I feel confident that not only could I handle another of your holodeck programs but also that I would very much enjoy it, as well as the time spent with you. I have a very strong feeling that I might like it very much. ::Their smiles remained as they looked deeply into each others eyes.::
Brock Dantara: I think so. We can even have dinner in there, but let me warn you, leave your diet in your quarters because the food is high cholesterol. Although the replicated versions of most foods don't have the content of the real thing.::Whispers to her:: As much as I'd like to kiss you right now that would not be appropriate, so that's another thing I'll save for the holodeck. ::Grins::
::They begin to walk towards the door of the mess hall:: Well, Counselor, Duty calls once again.

Brock Dantara: ::Brock had finished bridge duty for the time being. He sat in the lounge with a cup of juice, looking over a PADD as he waited for Tori to join him. he hoped that she had gotten some rest like she promised she would.::
Torianna: ::Torianna walked out of Kay's room, after having an interesting conversation with her and left sickbay with full intentions of heading to her quarters to finally get some sleep but as she walked, her thoughts went to Brock and soon she found herself walking to the lounge instead of going to her quarters, she sensed that he would be there upon her arrival. A nod and a smile given to crew members as they passed her, she soon entered into the lounge and looked about the room, her smile growing as her eyes fell upon him. She approached the table at which he sat looking over the PADD and spoke in her soft voice.:: Hello Lt. Commander, it is a pleasure to see you again. Brock Dantara: ::He looked up and smiled to her, as she came up and took a seat.:: It's wonderful to see you again too, Tori. Now would you stop with the 'Lt Commander' and just call me Brock? I'm officially off duty for the moment. ::He laughed:: I'm glad you remembered we were meeting here. I've been really looking forward to it. Did you get a chance to look in on Ryza and Kay? The Admiral sent me to the bridge right after I met with him. ::Smiles:: I think he just wanted to give Capt Kaz a break. She having a tough time as you know and how can you say you're forgetful? you're here aren't you?
Torianna: ::She chuckled softly:: As you wish, Brock. ::His name was a strong one, a name she found very fitting of the man and one that had a wonderful sound as it rolled off her tongue. A soft flush rose to her cheeks.:: I can not lie Brock, in my weariness, I fear I forgot that it was now we were to meet here although I have found myself very much looking forward to spending more time with you. Please forgive my forgetfulness? ::She then continued softly as she gazed into the eyes she found so intriguing.:: I did indeed have a chance to look in on both, Dr. Nyin was sleeping, her son beside her biobed looking very worried. I hear that her case is most perplexing with no physical reasons found for her being in the state she is. As for Kay, she seems to be doing well and is soon to be transferred along with Dr. Thrann and Kay to the USS Concord. ::Her brows raised a bit then.:: The Admiral must be impressed with your knowledge and skills, Brock.[ ::She nodded:: Yes, but the reason I am here instead of sound asleep within my quarters is I sensed you were here and wanted to be near you again, to spend more time with you. I do hope it is just exhaustion and not my memory failing me. Brock Dantara: ::Sighs:: as far as Dr Nyin, you are right about that. There is no physical reason, but there is a reason. One that I find very disturbing. I wish I could discuss it with you but the matter is extremely personal to her. I'll have to ask Ryza if it is ok for me to discuss this with you. When you do hear about this, you'll see why this is such a sensitive issue. Tori, if you're really that exhausted, why don't you get some sleep? We can do the holodeck program anytime. I don't want you running yourself ragged. Torianna: ::She looked to him with interest as he spoke and nodded when he told her of the personal nature.:: I would expect nothing less than for you to keep the nature of her case confidential unless she asked you to discuss it with me. I had really hoped that I would have had a chance to speak with her but as things look now, she will soon be transported to the Concord without my having an opportunity to do so. ::He would see disappointment in her facial features as she responded to his last words.:: Are we all not exhausted, Brock but if you are asking me if I would choose sleep over spending time with you, the answer is a definitive no but if you wish to postpone the holodeck program until another time, I would understand. ::She grew quiet as she looked to him and awaited his reply.:: Brock Dantara: Of course I want to spend time with you, Tori. I just don't want to feel like I'm being selfish or demanding of you. I want you to relax and enjoy yourself, not strain yourself. But if you're ok and you're up to it, then let's go. ::He stands and is ready to escort her out of the lounge to the holodeck.::
Torianna: ::Torianna gave him a soft smile and stood:: I am ready and I promise to enjoy myself and not strain myself at all. ::She would not mention the fact that the more she got to know him, the more she wanted him to be selfish and demanding of her time. Soon she would need to tell him of herself but tonight, she would just enjoy being with him. She moved closer to him, ready to have him escort her out of the lounge.:: Brock Dantara: ::they walk out of the lounge together:: I think you may find this a bit unusual, so I hope you like it. ::They enter the turbolift. When they arrive at the holodeck, Brock takes a small isolinear chip out of his belt and puts it into the data input slit on the wall panel. He turns to Tori:: This is a program that I always keep on me no matter what. My best friend Barry from the academy made this. it never leaves my side. ::The computer voice comes on:: ""Program complete, enter when ready" :: the Doors slide open and Brock motions to Tori to enter in front of him. What they enter is a very close representation of a 21st century night club. it is smokey, there are numerous tables and billiard tables in the corner, there is a stage in another corner where a live band was playing. He led her to a table and they sat down. The walls were wood paneled mostly covered with posters and stickers and pictures. He wondered if Tori even knew what cigarettes were, as many were smoking.::
Torianna: ::As they stepped onto the turbolift to make their way to the holodeck, Torianna smiled up at him:: Unusual does not mean bad, Brock and I look forward to sharing another of your programs with you. I loved visiting Stratos and hope one day to have the opportunity to visit the city itself. I am here with you and you are sharing with me another program you enjoy, what could there possibly be to dislike? ::She watched as he took the chip out of his belt placed it in the data input slit. She looked directly into his eyes as he turned to her.:: It must be a very special program for you to guard it so well Brock. ::As the door slid open and Brock motioned for her to enter, she stepped inside, her eyes struggling to adjust to the low lighting, and the fog within the room seemed thick, with a strange odor. She looked to where the band was playing, her eyes wide as she listened to the music, strange yet pleasant to her ears. She gasped softly as Brock led her through the crowd to sit at a table, the gasp coming when she watched many glowing tips of white sticks that others were bringing to their mouths and then breathing out smoke. She looked to Brock, then leaned closer to him as they sat at a table and whispered:: What species exhales smoke or fog, Brock?
Brock Dantara: ::Laughs:: Humans, at one time. This is 21st century earth. This place is called a nightclub. Also called a bar. Like the lounges we have today. These people are "Smoking". Back then people imbibed a substance called tobacco in this manner. It's not very good for you. This smoke is simulated. Other wise we'd both be coughing! ::Laughs again.:: When I was a Cadet at the Academy, Barry and I had formed a 20th-21st century style "Rock and Roll" band. We used to use this program to rehearse in. Barry was a fanatic, though, he like to actually use the ancient equipment that they used back then. We build our own amplifiers that ran on ancient vacuum tubes. Trouble was, that kind of equipment is noisy and loud and the Kommendant of the academy wasn't too pleased about us rehearsing. We got restricted to the holodeck, and Barry made this program. Torianna: ::Torianna looked around the room, seeing tables with balls set upon them and people hitting the balls with sticks, she wondered what the purpose of such actions was. As her eyes moved about the room, she noticed the wooden walls nearly hidden behind pictures and large posters. Although those that were 'smoking' looked happy, she wondered if it was truly enjoyable and why anyone would do something that was not good for them. Her attention then went back to the band and Torianna smiled, the music was indeed loud but also very enjoyable, she turned back to Brock.:: You can play music as they do? ::Her brow raised as she smiled.:: I can see why those at the Academy would limit your practice to the holodeck, for the volume of this music would deafen some that were attempting to study or rest. ::Her eyes sparkling as they looked in his, wondering what it might feel like to be sitting close, with his arm around her as so many of those within this 'nightclub' sat. She shook her head, sending her long hair flying about her as she attempted to push that thought away for the moment.:: Would you play for me one day, Brock? Brock Dantara: ::Smiled:: Of course I will. I realize that the music is loud, and it lacks the complexity of other forms of music, but the volume and the energy is part of what makes it what it is. This music is made of passion and emotion, and it's more freeform than other styles of music. there is room for a lot of interpretations and improvisation. ::Smiles to her:: I can remember one time when Barry and I got called into the Kommendant's office. The man looked us grimly in the face and said: "This form of music is dead....And there is a reason for that!!!!!!" ::He laughs out loud:: "And you've woken up a dead form of music that is capable of waking the dead!!!! Can't it just stay dead?" ::Brock continued laughing boyishly, remembering the incident.:: I think he tolerated us because he knew we were going to be good officers. I scored very high on my aptitude tests, and after the Dominion war, Starfleet was hungry for engineers. They made me a chief engineer on the Concord right out of the academy, pretty much. I have to admit, I miss that ship. She and I went through a lot together. ::The waitress, came over to the table:: "Brock! Hya hun!" ::She hugs him:: "where you been hiding?" ::She looks at Tori:: "Think maybe now I know!" ::Giggles:: ::Brock smiles at her:: How have you been, Roxanne? Behaving yourself? Oh, excuse me, Roxanne, this is Tori. ::She shakes her hand:: "Hya Doll, nice ta meet ya! what can I get you two to drink?" ::Brock looked to Tori to see if she might need help knowing what to order:: Torianna: ::Torianna smiles brightly as she listens to him, her body moving slightly to the music, unconsciously and without thought to it. She nods.:: I hear the passion and the emotion, as well as I feel it, Brock. I like this music, although you are correct, it is much different from the music styles I am accustom to. ::Her eyes opened wide as she heard him continue.:: The Kommendant truly made such a comment, what of self-expression in music and is not music appreciated differently by many. Music is a personal thing, much like writing and the creativity should not be held back. No music form should ever die if there are any that enjoy it. ::She heard his boyish laughter and could not help but laugh along with him.:: I am certain you showed great promise as an officer even before you entered the academy. It does not surprise me in the least that you scored very high on your aptitude tests. You told me a little of the Concord, do you think you will ever return to that ship? ::Torianna then gasped rather loudly when the waitress came over to the table and gave Brock a warm greeting, while giving him a hug. This was not behavior that Torianna was accustom to witnessing and it had taken her by surprise, just as it did when the waitress turned to her, as if checking her out and then making the suggestive comment. The flush on Torianna's face deepened and she found herself now thankful for the dim lighting, hoping it will disguise or hide her blush. She was again taken by surprise as the waitress she now knew to be Roxanne took her hand and shook it. Her eyes opened wide in surprise as she heard her words and looked to Brock for help, saying softly.:: I will allow Brock to surprise me and order for me, thank you though and it is my pleasure in meeting you, Roxanne. Brock Dantara: ::Thinks for a moment, not even sure if Tori drinks alcohol, although they would be getting synthehol. But Tori would have said something by now if that were a problem:: I'd like a beer, and how about a glass of Merlot for the young lady? ::She takes the order and Brock hopes he's made a good choice for her.:: You know, ::Brock said to Tori:: I don't even know where you are from. I didn't take the time to look up your record, I thought it would be more fun to find out about like this. So tell me what world is capable of producing beauty such as yours?
Torianna: ::She listens as Brock places the order, wondering of these drinks that he ordered, beer and merlot. She smiled, not worried for already she trusted him. Her facial features changed some as she heard his question put to her.:: I can not claim one world as my home world for my mother and father were of different worlds. They wished for me to know of both so my time growing up was spent divided between Krios and Elas. ::She would wait to tell him more, for there was so much to tell and she worried of frightening him off. Secrets she had kept to herself for so long she found herself wanting to share with him but wondered what he would think when he learned of that which even her parents had hidden to keep her with them. And what of the tears, the tears she had so long fought so that they would never fall, she knew that he would have to be told of those as well but what if these revelations frightened him off, would she ever find another that sparked such an interest in her, she had not found any until the day their eyes met. As she waited for him to answer and for their drinks to arrive, her eyes once again scanned the room and she saw people dancing, slow and close, finding herself wondering what it would feel like to be in the arms of a man, no, not just any man, but what it would feel like to be in Brock's arms as their bodies swayed to the music. Again she would shake her head and return her attention to him as she awaited his response.::

Brock Dantara: ::He nodded and smiled upon hearing of her heritage.:: I've heard a little about the Kriosians. As far as Elas, I'm sure most of what I know is not quite up to date. When I was a cadet, I went to the shipyard at new Texas to attend a lecture by Montgomery Scott. Seeing him was very significant to me. after he was finished speaking, I introduced myself and told him where I was from and about the monument I showed you on the Stratos simulation. He was so excited when he heard about it, He took me for a drink aboard the new Galaxy class USS James T Kirk, he told me the story of his own experience on Ardana and a few other stories, One of his favorites was about the Dolman of Elas! From what Old Scotty told me about her, she's not like you at all! ::Laughs:: Is that your Kriosian side? If memory serves, the Elasians in those days were a bit warlike. I would assume you've mellowed a little by now. And is it true what they say about the tears of an Elasian Woman? I was told it was a myth. Torianna: ::Torianna took in a deep breath as she listened to him speak. Her heart began to pound within her chest as all the noise surrounding them seemed to disappear, as if it were only the two of them. She knew the time had come to talk of herself, to tell him of the tears as well as the story that had been hidden for so very long now. As he finished speaking she drew in a deep breath, exhaling slowly as she then began to talk, knowing hers was a story that needed to be told to him.:: Brock, there is much that I am going to tell you that none other than my parents know of. I will try to answer all of your questions and know as I speak, more will be generated. ::She nodded then.:: Yes, what you have heard of the tears of Elasian women is true, I wish I could tell you that they are nothing more than a myth. I am surprised Montgomery Scott did not tell you of the affect of the tears upon James Kirk. Elaan Dolman was the Princess of Elas and not unlike most of the Elasian women was headstrong and determined to get what she wanted. Elasians are fierce by nature and a man that comes in contact with the tears of an Elasian women will fall deeply in love with the woman who shed the tears. I have learned to hide my tears and fight them, preventing them from falling. Although my tears are somewhat diluted due to the Kriosian blood that shares my veins with the Elasian blood, my tears have been tested and contain high levels of the love producing agents. ::She shook her head then, fighting tears as she spoke.:: I would never wish to infect anyone in that way, when a man falls in love with me, I wish for it to be real, a love that grows in the heart not a love that is caused by tears. ::She paused for a moment here before she would continue, giving him a moment or two to absorb what she had told him and to make an escape if he wished to.:: Brock Dantara: ::He pondered for a moment, absorbing what she'd said to him. He could see that she was afraid he might shy away from something like this, but instead, it made her even more fascinating and unique to him... This woman was indeed one of a kind, he thought to himself. For some reason the aspect about the tears didn't bother him. He wasn't afraid of them.:: I'm curious. ::He began:: based on what I know of Elasian women, they are all quite beautiful. I wonder why you even need something like this. These tears, Torianna, have you....used them on me? Torianna: ::She watched him carefully, studying his facial expression and body language as he contemplated what she had told him so far of herself but the question he asked of her took her totally by surprise. A soft gasp escaped over her lips as her eyes opened wide. She shook her head fiercely.:: No Brock, I have never ever used my tears, I have learned to control them and never do I allow them to fall. What would make you ask such a question of me, do you think I would resort to such trickery to get a man to love me? ::Torianna now fought her most difficult battle yet to keep her tears from filling her eyes and falling but it was not only the tears she fought for she was also a empathic metamorph and if she allowed herself the freedom to do so, she could become everything that Brock had ever wanted in a woman. She thought of running as fast as she could but there was something about this man, so different from all the others that prevented her from running. She looked into his eyes as she awaited his response to her question.:: Brock Dantara: ::He smiled and slid up closer to her on the bar seat.:: I wasn't being accusatory, or trying to be. I just wanted to confirm my own beliefs. I wonder why evolution would give such an attribute to someone who doesn't need them.... ::He put his arm around her:: What I mean to say is, You've had me under a spell since the first minute I saw you. You don't need to use tears for me, Torianna. Evidently you have a more subtle quality about you that seems to be just as effective as the tears, if not more so. I can assure you, Tori, I'm under no chemical influence. Just yours. ::He leaned forward and kissed her lips.:: Torianna:::Her pulse quickened as he slid closer to her, she sensed the warmth of his body yet their bodies were not yet touching.:: I have often wondered of evolution's reasoning behind the tears and have concluded that perhaps in a species that is so fierce in nature, lacking any form of diplomacy that perhaps the tears were an insurance of sorts that men and women would fall in love and procreate the species but that is simply an educated opinion of mine, I am certain many would disagree with my theory. ::Her breath caught in her throat as his arm was placed around her, she wondered if he could hear the loud pounding of her heart at his closeness to her. She heard his words and her pounding heart soared. She was just about to open her mouth, to speak of the other side of her when his lips met with hers in their second kiss and she was lost in the soft sweet passion that was ignited between them. Dare she even hope that in this man her dreams would come true and finally, Torianna would be able to truly relax and be herself...she wondered as they shared a kiss that made her feel as if she were floating on a cloud about Stratos rather than sitting in the holodeck of a ship. She never wished this kiss to end:: Brock Dantara: ::He was locked in a kiss with her, not like any he had before him. His mind felt as he stood at the precipice of her thoughts. That she could hare them if she wanted to. It was like nothing before. It felt as if their souls themselves began to intertwine like playful dolphins. Like their life forces were embracing, not just their bodies. It almost began to overwhelm him. He ended the kiss, and as he did, a voice interrupted them.:: Sorry, Hun, I hate to interrupt, but the band wants ya. ::He pulled back for a minute, trying to regain his thoughts form the spell of the kiss he was in, and looked to Roxanne.:: Um....Ok give me a couple minutes. ::Smiled:: Torianna: ::Torianna had felt his mind as it offered to her an opening but she would not take that which was offered. She felt the melding of their life forces as their souls began to intertwine. She fought her natural desire to use the 'gift' she had been born with, a rare empathic metamorph, born only once every seven generations and even rarer still since she was not of full Kriosian bloodlines. No man had interested her before but now, it was as if he were the one with the tears or the ability to change his persona to meet all of her emotional needs for indeed she saw him a the 'perfect mate' for her. She shook her head as if to wake herself from a dream. She was a bit breathless as he ended the kiss and then she too heard the voice of Roxanne. She fought to regain control of her emotions as she heard him tell Roxanne ok and asked for a couple minutes. Seeing his handsome smile brought a smile to her lips as well. No words did she speak as their gaze held.::
Brock Dantara: ::It was as if he needed to catch his breath. Still he looked into her eyes deeply.:: Um.....The band wants me to sit in. You...did say you wanted me to play for you. We don't have to, I mean if you'd rather just talk that's ok.. ::He found himself stumbling and reaching for words again like a raw cadet. He could tell she understood what he meant so he waited to see what she wanted.::

Torianna: ::Torianna looked deeply into his eyes, still wrapped within the warm embrace of his strong arms. She felt torn, wanting to hear him sing but also not wishing for this moment to end or to leave his embrace. She sensed he was struggling as well, not only by the look in his eyes but also by his seeming to search for the words to say, she gave him a warm smile as her breath returned.:: I must admit, this is a rather difficult decision but the band needs you to sit in and I do wish to hear you sing, Brock. ::She reached up and tenderly stroked his cheek.:: Brock Dantara: ::He smiled, touched her hand as she touched his cheek, and then kissed her hand.:: I think I know just the thing. ::He got up and began to walk to the stage. As he approached the stage the bandleader saw him coming and went up to the microphone.: "Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we have a special guest in the house! Let's give him a warm welcome!" ::The crowd began to applaud as Brock took the stage.:: "You all know this guy! Brock Dantara!" ::He took off his guitar and handed it to Brock.:: ::Brock hugged and shook hands with the band members as he discussed the song he wanted to play. Two girls got on stage and stood before a microphone. One held a tambourine.:: Torianna: ::Torianna felt a warm shiver run throughout her as his hand touched hers, bringing it to his lips for a tender kiss. She smiled at his confidence as told her he thought he knew the right thing, then rose and walked toward the stage. She did not quite understand the pride she felt in him as he stepped onto the stage and the bandleader went to the microphone and announced him but it was a look that would be evident to any that looked at her. The smile on her face grew as the crowd began to applaud, her hands stinging from clapping so loudly. She settled back into her seat to listen to him sing, already missing the arms that had embraced her just moments ago. For a moment, just a brief moment, she wondered if she should run now before losing her heart completely. That thought quickly pushed aside for she knew even then that she would not, could not turn away from him, her attention once again on Brock as he stood on the stage, her eyes twinkling like the brightest of stars in all of the universe.:: Brock Dantara: ::Guitar in hand Brock took the microphone.:: How's everybody feeling tonight? ::The crowd applauded again.:: I'd like to do a special song for a very special person tonight....This one is called "Magnet and steel" ::The crowd applauded again when they heard the song title. Brock began by strumming a single chord rapidly as the drummer came in and the song began.::
[glow=red,2,300]((OOC Note: If anyone would like to hear the song, please feel free to request the mp3 by sending an email to BrockDantara@aol.com))[/glow] ::It was a two chord progression reminiscent of the 1950's era of old Earth. The two girls began the song with vocals..
>Singers> Ooooooh ooh oooh oohhh ooh ooh ahh ahh Brock Dantara> Now I told you, so you ought to kno-ow >Singers> oooooh oooh oooh oooh..... Brock Dantara> It takes so long for a fee---ling to gro-oh >Singers> oooooh oooh oooh ooooh.... Brock Dantara> you're so close now, I can't let you go---oh >Singers> ooooh ooooh ooooh oooh Brock Dantara> and I can't let go... ALL> with you I'm not shy Brock Dantara> to show the way I feel ALL> with you I might try Brock Dantara> My secrets to reveal ALL> for you are a magnet and I am steee--ee--ee---eeel
::The Chord progression continues, the guitar is heavy with reverb and a hypnotic quality to it:: Brock Dantara> I can't hope that I'll hoo-ld you for lo-ong >Singers> oooh oooh ooh ooooh Brock Dantara> you're a woman who's lost in your so-ong >Singers> oooh oooh oooh ooooh.... Brock Dantara> But the love that I fee-eel is so stro-ong >Singers> oooh oooh oooh oooooh Brock Dantara> and it can't be wrong ALL> With you I'm not shy Brock Dantara> to show the way I feel ALL> with you I might try Brock Dantara> My secrets to reveal ALL> for you are a magnet, and I am steee-eee-eee-eel
Brock Dantara: ::Brock does the simple guitar solo emulating the melody of the song. The dance floor fills with couples dancing closely::
>Singers> with you I'm not shy Brock Dantara> to show the way I feel >Singers> with you I might try Brock Dantara> My secrets to reveal ALL> for you are a magnet, and I am steel. For you are a magnet, and I am steel, For you are a magnet and I am steee---eee-ee-eeel.
Brock Dantara: ::The song slows and ends Brock looks to Tori and winks, smiles. He begins to get down off the stage.:: Torianna: ::She could not take her eyes off him, seemingly drawn by a special magnetism and then she heard his words and felt another warm shiver race through her as she too applauded loudly, the expression on her face one of a woman falling deeper in love but how could that be with the short time they have known each other, she chose not to question but to allow her feelings to show. As she listened to Brock sing the words, the melody haunting as the words described exactly how she had been feeling, drawn to him as she was. She watched as he played the guitar solo, so mesmerized by him and his voice that she did not even notice as the dance floor filled with couples dancing slowly, it was as if they were completely alone in the room. It was not until the crowd began to applaud for Brock that the trance was somewhat broken and it was not until he began to step off the stage that she realized her tears were falling freely for the first time since she was nothing more than a very young girl. She began to fight them again, then quickly searched for something to dry them completely before Brock reached the table.::
Brock Dantara: ::As he headed back to the table, Brock saw that Tori was wiping away her tears.:: It wasn't THAT bad, now was it? ::Laughs as he rubbed her arm:: And I meant every word of that song. It's a very old, forgotten song but I always liked it. You wanna stay here a while? or is there someplace else you'd rather go? Torianna: ::She looked up at him as he walked back to the table and smiled a bit shyly, her voice almost a whisper.:: It was not bad at all, it was beautiful Brock and the tears were not tears of sadness but before you touch me again, let me go and dispose properly of this, she held up the cloth she had used to wipe her tears and wash up as well, I want to take no chances. ::Her heart racing as he rubbed her arm and she listened to his words.:: The words somehow described how I have been feeling, I could have very easily been singing the same words to you. ::She stood then to go to the lavatory, but before leaving she answered his question.:: I would like to finish our drinks and dance at least one dance with you before we leave. Then, as long as I am with you, I do not care if we stay or if we go somewhere else. ::Her pulse still beating fast as she walked toward the door where the lavatory was.::
Brock Dantara: ::Brock sat back down at the table as Tori went to the Lavatory.:: ::Roxanne came over.:: "Very good, as always, Mr Dantara. ::She laughed.:: Can I get ya anything?" Sure. ::Brock replied.:: More drinks and how about the sampler platter? I didn't realize how hungry I was. ""Sure thing, Hun." ::She took the order to the bar::
Torianna: ::Once through the door to the ladies room, Torianna went to the sinks and rinsed the cloth out well before disposing of it, she then washed her face and hands thoroughly before using the facilities, then washing thoroughly again. She ran her fingers through her long hair, satisfied with her reflection, she headed back out the door, returning to the table, a soft smile given to Brock upon her return.:: Brock, the song you chose was perfect, thank you for such a wonderful gift.
Brock Dantara: ::He smiled:: I didn't write it. I just sang it for the person it was written for. ::He ran his fingers through her hair:: that song is over two hundred years old, and it's been waiting for you to hear it. I hope that you didn't find the facilities too crude. this program is designed to be time period authentic. To show how earthers lived in this time. I also took the liberty of ordering more drinks and some food. The cuisine in places like these was not elegant, but I like some of it. Torianna: ::Her eyes twinkled brightly as she listened to him tell her the song, although written over two hundred years before had been written for her. Her head tilted gently into his hand as his fingers ran through her hair and then she chuckled softly.:: Well, I must say that the facilities were different from any I have ever encountered before and the trip there proved interesting. I am pleased to hear that you ordered more drinks and food, there is so much I have to learn of the past and places like this. ::Reaching over and once again stroking his cheek, bringing a fingertip across to brush lightly over his lips, she smiled.:: And I can think of no one else in the entire universe that I would like to share it with, other than you, Brock. ::A soft blush rose to her cheeks as she surprised herself with her forwardness.:: Brock Dantara: And I can think of no one in the universe that I would rather sing to, than you. No one I'd rather share things with. If you were a Star ship, you would be the jewel of the fleet. ::Kisses her::
Brock Dantara: ::The food and drinks are brought to the table. It is served in an oval wicker basket that had a sheet of wax paper in it and the food was on top of that.:: Let's see what we have here, ::Brock looked over the food.:: These things here are called jalapeno poppers. It is a pepper that is stuffed with creamed cheese and then breaded and fried. These were called Chicken fingers back then. Although chickens do not have hands. ::Laughs:: These are also chicken but are called "Buffalo wings" I'm not sure why. Buffalo are a large bovine creature from Earth. They don't fly, though, And these are saute'd Mushrooms. Utensils are not needed for most of this. It was referred to as "Finger food" back in those days. This, ::Pointing to a small bowl of yellow substance:: is called honey mustard sauce. We dip the food into it. Any questions? or was that briefing sufficient, ensign? ::Laughs:: Torianna: ::Torianna watches as the food is brought to the table in a container that appeared to be woven of the same material she had seen while attending the Academy. She searched her memory until she remembered she had been told the furniture was made of a substance called wicker, she smiled and gazed into Brock's grey blue eyes as she listened to him begin to name the foods that set within the basket on some sort of paper. She moved a bit closer, inhaling the aroma of the foods as Brock pointed them out to her, explaining what each was. She chuckled hearing him speak of the animals on earth that were the source of the foods. She looked to her fingers, glad she had just washed them as Brock explained that utensils would not be used to consume the "finger food". Her head canted gently to the side, her long hair falling across her shoulder as she looked to the small bowl and wrinkled her nose slightly. Her eyes then raised to meet with his again as it asked her if she had any questions, then laughed softly at his humor.:: I think the briefing was more than sufficient to begin the mission of food testing, Lt. Commander. ::Her eyes sparkling as she enjoyed the time spent with him more than anything she could remember.:: Brock Dantara: ::He smiled to her, as he took one of the poppers and dipped it and ate it..:: I admit, this is not the most nutritional food one can get, but it is tasty. At least I always found it so. ::He watched Tori as she began to try some of the food and awaited a verdict. He saw that she was having a good time and just that made him happy. He never imagined that he would be enjoying a woman's company this soon after Shian disappeared from his life. Now, he found himself thinking of her less and less with each passing day, and he was grateful for that. The war had come to an end and life was beginning to feel easier again. Little by little, he found himself letting go of the guilt he had been feeling. A war was no reason for him to deny himself happiness.:: Torianna: ::Torianna lifted one of the things Brock had called a chicken finger, dipping it gingerly into the sauce before taking a small bite, she smiled as she chewed, the taste was pleasing and as she swallowed, she took another bite, her eyes returning to his. She returned his smile and sensed that he was as happy as she but she also sensed something else. In that moment, she felt him relax even more than he was and sensed a release of sorts within him, she knew she had the ability to learn more but she would not utilize it, instead she would wait until she learned from him in the 'normal' ways. As she finished the chicken finger, she reached for a popper, dipping it as she spoke.:: Thank you, Brock, I am enjoying the food, as well as the company. I could think of no place I would rather be and no one I would rather be with right now. ::The words of the song still playing through her mind as they continued to eat.:: Brock Dantara: I'm glad. ::He smiled at her.:: I was hoping you would like this. This is one of my favorite programs. Barry and I used to use it all the time. Of course, I had to do a slight bit of reprogramming. You see, the waitress used to always ask where Barry was when I came in here alone. It got...A little painful after a while. What do I tell a hologram? ::He shrugged:: I often wonder what it would be like to live in this time period. Although I don't think I could live without Starships. I suppose I'm too much the 24th century citizen. I sure would like to have been able to meet Zephraim Cochran, though. Or seen some of those early starships like the Daedalus class. Those people flew by the seats of their pants compared to how it is now. Our ships are like luxury hotels with warp drive compared to what they had in those days. ::He gazed into her eyes as he spoke, then grabbed a buffalo wing.:: Jean Luc Picard always emphasized History. He always stressed that the knowledge of the past was rich and we must not forget it. I've always loved history. Do you realize that Stratos was built during Earth's 14th century? Torianna: I do like it very much, Brock. ::Having avoided the messy looking 'buffalo wings until now, she picked one up using just her fingertips and brought it to her mouth while her eyes remained locked on his. She listened with sincere interest as he spoke, nibbling on the buffalo wing, surprised finding a bone in it. Once again she sensed, not only saw his sadness as he spoke of his best friend, Barry and knowing he missed him very much. Hearing as he led the conversation in a bit of a different direction, she smiled and after he finished talking, she spoke up in her soft voice.:: Brock, perhaps together we could research more and learn together more of how it would be to live in this time period. ::Torianna smiled and nodded.:: I do not see you happy living without Starships, Brock, it is in your blood and being an officer runs through your veins as sure as the life supporting body fluids do. You are a good officer and an exceptional man, you will find ways to meet challenges just as the people then did, it will just be different challenges, with more advanced technology. ::Torianna did see great things for Brock's future and did not for a moment question his command skills. She reached out and touched his hand, her eyes twinkling as she continued.:: I know only that which you have told me of Stratos but I do wish to know more, for that is the home of the man...::She paused, stopping herself, a soft blush as she continued.::...for that is your home, Brock. ::She gently squeezed his hand as their eyes remained locked.:: Brock Dantara: ::He gazed at her hypnotic eyes:: I'd like to show it to you. And I will someday. Right now, ::His eyes shifted to the dance floor:: I'd love to dance with you. The way they dance here is not complex as you see. ::He stood and took her hand to lead her to the dance floor. A slow song was being started by the band.:: Torianna: ::Torianna nodded as he spoke of showing her Stratos one day, she had been so happy when they last visited the holodeck and Stratos for a brief preview. She rose as he did and entwined her small fingers with his as he took her hand, leading her to the dance floor. She heard the slow song as the band began to play and looked up into his eyes as they reached the dance floor, her pulse racing as she felt her heartbeat quicken with the mere thought of the dance that was soon to come.:: Brock Dantara: ::He led her to the dance floor and held her close as the song began. Brock knew the song and the words and as they danced he put his lips to her ear and sang along.:: It's late in the evening, She wonders what clothes to wear. She puts on her make up, and brushes her long brown hair. Then when she asks me, "Do I look alright?" I said yes, you look wonderful tonight. ::As the guitar played its part, Brock felt intoxicated by her fragrance as he laid his head on her shoulder. They softly swayed back and forth to the music.:: We go to a party. Everyone turns to see, This beautiful lady, Walking along with me, And when she asked me: "Do you feel alright?" I said yes, I feel wonderful tonight. ::He holds his head up and looks at her.:: I feel wonderful, because I see a love light in your eyes. And the wonder....Of it all....Is you just don't realize....How much I love you ::The guitar begins again and then goes into a solo.:: Torianna: ::Torianna felt wonderful as Brock took her into his arms, their bodies pressing together as he held her close. She felt a warmth spread through her as she heard him singing the words to the song, only loud enough for her to hear, as they began to dance slowly, their bodies swaying to the slow song. She listened to the words and a soft smile curled her lips. As they words took pause for the guitar solo, she felt Brock lay his head on her shoulder and she turned her head slightly placing a soft kiss to his cheek as their bodies continued to softly sway back and forth to the music. As the words to the song begin again, she felt a small wave of disappointment as he lifted his head from her shoulder but then their eyes met and she hears the words that followed, words that warmed her even more as she realized he was not simply singing words of a song but that he was singing the words for her to hear. She knew that what they were sharing was special, something she believed few ever experienced for love often took much time to develop and grow. She fought tears of happiness now, unwilling to allow them to fall for she would not waste not a second of these precious moments with him.:: Brock Dantara: ::He kisses her and then sings the last verse.:: It's time to go home now, I've got an aching head. So I give her the car keys.... and she puts me to bed. and then I tell her, As she turns out the lights. I say my Darling, you were wonderful tonight. ::The song ends and they applaud the band along with everyone else. He turns to her, smiling.:: Ready to get going? Don't get me wrong, I could stay in here all night, but I know how tired you are and I must insist that you get yourself some sleep. You've been burning the candle at both ends, you know. We'll take a little walk first, if you like. Torianna: ::Torianna wonders if he can feel the pounding of her heart as their lips meet while they dance, her eyes looking up into his as their bodies continue to sway while he sings the last verse. They both applaud the band loudly along with the others and then as he turns to her, his handsome smile captivating her as he speaks, she nodded a bit sadly, knowing that he was indeed being wise and that they both needed rest. She was surprised to feel not even a slight inclination to fight him when he insisted that she get sleep. She smiled a soft warm smile.:: Yes, Brock, I would very much enjoy a little walk before returning to my quarters to get some sleep. Brock Dantara: I'd like that very much. And if you ever want to use this program, everyone here will know you from now on. ::He points to a sign on the wall::[glow=red,3,300]"Welcome to the Metroplex Bar & Grille, where you are only a stranger once" [/glow]Computer, end program! ::The bar fades away leaving them in the bare holodeck, the doors open and they leave. They walk silently, hand in hand out the door.::

Brock Dantara: ::Optimus had docked at Starbase 141. Brock could feel sighs of relief all over the ship as the crew began to depart. He headed to his new quarters that were near the bridge and sat on the bed to relax. He hadn't even slept on his own bed, he only took naps and did that in the cargo bay with the remainder of his crew from Guardian and some from Tahoe. Now they were all departing to find new posts and Brock thought it might be best to stay out of the way unless called upon. He knew Dr Jackson would be taking the Admiral back to his apartment on the base and he hoped that man would be back in action soon. He laid on his bed and put his hands behind his back, relaxing for the first time, other than the time he spent with Tori. He left Lt Cmdr Rivers on the bridge to handle things.::
Torianna: ::Torianna had been sleeping deeply for several hours, dreams drifting in and out of her subconscious as she slept. Her quarters still in a bit of disarray due to the fact that she had not yet finished unpacking her personal belongings but she had been too exhausted to even consider finishing that task before getting some sleep. Although sleep had come quickly and she had only been sleeping for a few hours, she woke with a start, sitting up in the bed as she looked about her quarters, feeling a presence but knowing that no one could possibly be within the confines of her quarters. Still, she remained silent, listening for several moments before laying her head back down upon the pillow, her thoughts immediately going to Brock and wondering if she were not being a bit unwise, allowing her feelings freedom for the first time. A soft smile graced her face as she remembered his eyes, his handsome face, the sound of his voice and how she had felt in the embrace of his strong arms.::
Brock Dantara: ::He had left word with Cmdr Rivers of his whereabouts. As he relaxed he could not help but think of the time he'd spent in the holodeck with Torianna. His first inclination was to go find her, but he remembered that she needed rest very badly so he decided to let her continue to sleep as she had worked tirelessly to help the crewmembers of Guardian and Tahoe. He lay wondering what would become of Optimus after the war. would she have a new assignment? would they be putting her in mothballs since the war was over? He hoped not, as he felt that Optimus could be put to good use and he began to formulate ideas as to how.::
Torianna: ::Remembering the orders given her by both Brock and Dr. Jackson, she lay there and tried to get more sleep but it seemed her mind was too full of questions and thoughts for sleep to come easy. She reflected on all she had met since her coming aboard the Optimus, the horror of the war and the impostors that thought nothing of killing those within the escape pods as they floated helplessly in space. Her thoughts went to the Admiral, knowing how difficult this must be for even a man with his strength and experience. She worried about some of those she had met, like Captain Kaz and the young Lt. who had made an impression on her. She wanted to help them all as each found their own way to deal with the horror of this war and the pain of such great loss. She knew she should try to sleep a little more now that she had some down time and forced herself to close her eyes again. She began to hum softly trying to relax and clear her mind so sleep would come to her. She did not realize right away that the tune she hummed was the melody of the song Brock had sung to her, a soft smile upon her face as she drifted back to sleep.::
