The Barrington Estate was located on 550 acres of prime real estate on Mars (Sol IV). The entire estate was under pressure domes, although terraforming efforts on Mars had been underway for some time.
The Martian Colonies had always had a history of independence and that had been one of the draws for Niles Barrington. It was the reason he had kept it there. It was quite a different story how the Barrington Estate came into being in the first place.
Rumor, in this instance was actually fact, in that Niles Barrington had won the estate in a poker game. his reputation as a high stakes gambler and winner had been well documented since his days at the Academy.
After winning the estate Barrington had financed a complete overhaul, with new pressure domes and a knew main house, barn and guest house built to specifications. And his specifications included a security system that would put the Black Room in Starfleet Headquarters to shame.
Admiral Sir Alexander Niles Barrington had lived a storied life with a storied career, most of which was still classified by Starfleet Intelligence. But even his name held clues to some of that life. He never used the name Alexander.
His proper name he had taken from three Starfleet Intelligence officers. Barrington's birth name, he came to find out as an adult, was Jelani Dar, his father a Romulan admiral and his mother a Vulcan priestess. Holding dual citizenship in both the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire, he had also discovered that his family was quite prominent in the Empire. Senator Dar, his grandmother, was one of the two Romulan senators off-world during the Shinzon attack.
The former chief of Starfleet Intelligence Field Operations, now retired had risen to flag rank during several decades of service. And the "Sir" was awarded by the British Empire on Earth. William Winfield-Windsor, heir to the British Monarchy had not only been a personal friend, but had served as Barrington's executive officer. Barrington avenged his friend's untimely death and was awarded a knighthood by the Queen of England.
The estate was well maintained with a full staff. Barrington planned to retire their. But retirement would have to wait. One day he and Lady Barrington would wile away the days with a house full of children. But for today, duty called.
